Update #6

Hello again to our supporters! We've made a lot of progress. Since my last update, we've purchased and delivered food to 8 more families. That brings us to a combined total of 12 families helped.

We've had a lot of heavy rain in El Salvador recently. The rain has made it more challenging to purchase and deliver food. Two bags of corn mix got wet, which we had to replace. Then one carton of 30 eggs was damaged when the cardboard crate got wet and toppled. Also, sometimes when we deliver food, the families are not able to carry the eggs in the rain, so we give them a ride to their home - on very poorly paved roads with craters and large rocks blocking the roadway. It's always an adventure and we are blessed to be able to help so many in need!

I wrote an article with a full update on the campaign:
https://imperfectplan.com/2020/06/27/campaign-update-2-fight-hunger-in-el-salvador/

We still have enough funds to purchase food for 12 more families, so we have a lot more plans coming up.

I'll be in touch again after the next round of deliveries is complete. Please feel free to send us any questions or suggestions. We've learned a lot and we're glad we can help so many people.

Thank you again for your support! We couldn't do this without you!

More Info

People of El Salvador desperately need food and water. As the Coronavirus pandemic takes its toll, many Salvadorans are struggling. They are placing "Famine Flags" on their homes, a desperate plea for help.

Our goal is to purchase food in bulk for 20 families. Rice, beans, flour, sugar, eggs, vegetables and a small amount of chicken, if possible.

We will purchase the food items from local farmers and local markets. Then we will divide the food into plastic bags and distribute the food to families that have placed white flags outside of their homes.

We will publish photos of the bulk food we purchase and our distribution efforts. Please check back for photos.

Stephanie and I are new to fundraising, so we decided to start with only $1000. Inevitably, hunger will increase among the communities here.

Update #5

Hello to our supporters,

GREAT news!

A lot has happened over the past few days. We finally received the first round of campaign contributions from Stripe and we purchased food in bulk and distributed it to 3 families, with a fourth family pending.

Stephanie and I have determined the cost of food per family to be exactly $21.43. Now, we know what to expect to spend per family, which foods to purchase and how to distribute everything efficiently.

I provide more photos and details in this article:
https://imperfectplan.com/2020/06/13/campaign-update-fight-hunger-in-el-salvador/

We've only spent a small portion of the money from you, our supporters, so we have a lot more work to do. Now that we can estimate food costs effectively, we're going to increase our next purchase to cover 8 families.

With each family we visited yesterday, they were so incredibly grateful for the food that we provided to them. It especially reduces the burden for mothers that have young children. Thanks to you, we are able to provide this support!

Our small campaign has now achieved $335, a big victory for a small community effort. We've learned a lot about the process and have simplified our method to make it easier to help more people. We still have 33 days left to achieve $1000, and we believe we can do it.

If anyone has Twitter or Facebook, please consider sharing our Fundly page. Every little bit helps.

We will keep you updated on our progress. Thanks again!

Chris & Stephanie

Update #4

Note: I can see that the screenshot/image from my last message is low quality, so I've uploaded the image to my website and the high resolution can be seen here:

This is the email that I received from Stripe, stating that payouts are now enabled and the first Payout is scheduled for June 11th.

Update #3

Hello again to all of our supporters. So we were patiently awaiting for the first payout on June 8th from Stripe. On June 8th I reached out to Stripe Support again because the Stripe Dashboard continued to say that the first payout will be "tomorrow" (even after multiple days had passed).

Finally, after sending multiple messages I received an email from Stripe Support stating that the Stripe account has been approved and that the funds will go through on the June 11th (three days after they initially said it would). Ugg!

So, we're still waiting. In the interest of transparency, I've attached a screenshot of the email from Stripe. I've also contacted Fundly, the campaign platform, to notify them of this frustration and ask them if they can offer any options to expedite the process.

My apologies for these delays. This has been a learning process. If anyone has experience with a different platform, please let me know. We may consider changing platforms because these delays are undermining our time-sensitive campaign to help the hungry.

Hopefully everything will be resolved soon so that my next message to you will be more optimistic. I will continue to keep you updated. Thank you all again for your patience and support.

Update #2

Hi all, Chris here with another update. I spoke with Stripe (the payment processor) because we were unclear why the funds aren't available yet. We've been patient, although we're somewhat frustrated that the funds haven't been disbursed yet because people need food NOW! Stripe said that the funds are expected to clear on June 8th (4 days from now). They said that there's a temporary hold because the Stripe account is new. Ugg. We're at their mercy and it's frustrating but we have no option except to be more patient. Thank you again for your support and I'll keep you updated in a few days.

Update #1

Thank you SO MUCH to everyone that has contributed to far! Tomorrow we'll be receiving the first round of funds ($110) from the payment processor (Stripe). Once we have the money we'll purchase the first batch of food, separate it into containers, then we'll hit the streets to deliver it to locals in need. With this money, we should be able to feed ~10 people for one week. We'll take photos and report back. Thank you all again - you are wonderful for helping those in desperate need! God bless you all! More updates to come.
