"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:" Peter 1 4:10
My name is Billy Contreras and I have lived on Staten Island for 12 years and could never imagine that this would ever happen to my beloved island. What I have seen in the past few days I can not even begin to put into words. I have seen people's homes torn apart, belongings spread across blocks from the flooding that occurred. Children picking up soaked, sooted toys from piles of what is now debris because of its sentimental value. Women and men walking around shocked, angry, devastated and in disbelief because all that they had, is now gone.
Since the hurricane has passed, I have tried my best to provide for the people in my community along with friends and family. I was able to get Home Depot to donate water and we have been going from home to home collecting donations of food, water and clothing and distributing it to those who are in need.
But, I can only do so much. Many of you, I believe, would the same for others if you could. Although you may not all be here physically to help, there are other ways. On Saturday, we are planning to hold a BBQ for the people in the communities of Midland and South Beach in which we will be cooking for them as well as distributing any needed food items. We are asking that you support and donate to our cause. The BBQ will be happening on Olympia Blvd and Midland Beach. We will be going around these areas to let the communities know of the event. We are hoping to have a large outcome as many people have shared with us the lack of support they have gotten. Whatever funds are left over will be used to buy blankets and given to those in need and to the shelters in the area.
We need your help to continue our stewardship. Let's remember our calling to be servants unto others. People need our help and what better way to support them but by giving to our cause to feed the hungry and to give warmth to the cold.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
New Tech Construction
