Exceeding Autism is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating abilities through engagement, education and empowerment. We are working to provide a safe space for children with autism to grow and learn new skills.
In 2014, my son was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum disorder at the age of 2 years old. Even though I am a nurse and I was aware that something was not quite right with my child, I still wasn't aware of the obstacles that I would encouter after receiving that diagnosis. My son struggled with verbal communication and was severely impaired in the areas of socialization. After years of speech, play and occupational therapies coupled with some amazing public school teachers and ABA therapy, my son made miraculous strides. Now at the age of 8 years old, he is in a 2nd grade general education class in a public school where he consistently makes honor roll grades and excellent conduct.
It was through the dark days of struggling with my son's disability, that I found my own ability and purpose in life. Exceeding Autism is dedicated to helping parents and family members overcome the stigma of the diagnosis. As a nurse and former nonprofit sector employee, I know what it's like for people not to know what to do when life throws something that you weren't ready for. Exceeding Autism is and organization built from love and a necessity for more resources in our society to help families that have individuals with ASD. We are currently providing supportive family groups, but it is our desire to grow and cultivate abilities through engagement, education and empowerment.
