I am an interdisciplinary artist who has been creating work dealing with social concerns over the last few years. These works have been in the form of paintings, contemporary dance, and large scale installation.
For my next piece I am needing to purchase some small projectors. These will be used in an exhibition that will open up at the University of Wisconsin The concept of the work will be to display small videos of people making commentaries, which are on a loop. The videos will be shown in small groups (enclaves) in the gallery space. Visitors will come upon these groups much like you would wander into a conversation in a social setting, like a party. The looping will cause the statements in the conversation to have a different context, depending on what the other projector is showing at the time.In the end, this piece will be a simulation of how it can be to look through a social media "wall," with all of these small bits of information being passed, with little hope of proper discourse. And yet, that is how a lot of people share their viewpoints.
