We are collecting funds for the Ukrainian nonprofit organization DOBRO ("Kindness") which has been assisting conflict-affected individuals since 2014, and continues to so during the current emergency. More info below.
Dear Friends & Family:
Karina and I have extensive experience living and working in conflict-affected areas of eastern Ukraine and have built a large network of partners and colleagues who are already on the ground serving people in need during this latest emergency. While there are many great international organizations that are active in Ukraine already, we have elected to support a local organization called DOBRO (“Kindness”) that we know and trust. DOBRO is based out of Dobropillia, Donetsk Oblast – very close to Karina’s hometown.
Since the beginning of the crisis in 2014, DOBRO has worked in communities in and around Dobropillia to help families displaced by the fighting (IDPs) meet basic needs and settle into their new lives. Their support has also extended to other local populations negatively affected by the conflict. To date, they have implemented projects worth over $200,000 on behalf of Ukrainian and international partners. As the rest of the world mobilizes to assist Ukraine, DOBRO has the infrastructure, the experience, and the contacts in place to deliver assistance in these communities immediately. A little more information about their past work and the communities they serve can be found here:
The latest surge of Russian aggression has displaced the Head of DOBRO, our friend Vladimir Oros, to Odesa, where he has already begun assisting IDPs in that city. Mr. Oros will use that base to help IDPs meet basic needs – food, water, shelter, medicine – as well as assist with safe evacuation to neighboring countries. The scale of the need in Ukraine right now is far greater than anyone could have imagined. We ask for your financial support now so that we can enable DOBRO to continue their lifesaving work in the Donetsk and Odesa Regions.
We will use this GoFundMe page to collect donations from within the United States and transfer funds to an account in Ukraine for Dobro every two weeks (or as needed). At this stage in the emergency, we will designate these funds as unrestricted – to be used at DOBRO’s discretion to support their humanitarian efforts on the ground. With the notable exception of an 8% fee collected by GoFundMe to operate the platform, 100% of your donation will go directly toward supporting with evacuations (including the purchase of fuel) and the provision of essentials such as food, hygiene items, and/or medicine. Karina and I will cover international wire transfer fees out of our own pocket. We will report back periodically on social media with photos and a summary of the use of these funds. If you have any questions at all about DOBRO or this initiative to support them, please feel free to contact one of us at the numbers below.
Thank you for your support for brave Ukraine!
