Update #9

Hello Friends and family!

My progress on fundraising for Thrive School at Bayside Church:

I’m closer to my goal on my last payment since my last update I have posted. My total is 1,212/1,833.33. I’m so close to finishing my goal so that I can finish Thrive School. Without your generosity and prayers none of this would be possible. If your not able to donate at this time I would love for you to be on my prayer team. Even $10 or $20 is a blessing reaching towards my goal. My payment was on February 1st and I’m given until February 14th to work on Fundraising. Please call me or message and I look forward to talking to you about what I’m doing in Thrive School.

Update on what I’m doing in Thrive School:

For those of you who don’t know my ministry/internship is with the 4th and 5th graders at Granite Bay. In March I’m giving the messages in front of the little kiddos. This year my word is bold so God is challenging me to step out of my comfort zone. This challenge will help me to reach what I am called to do. I want to be a children’s pastor and I’m looking forward to taking those steps that will get me there. After Thrive School I’m staying over the summer to continue helping with the 4th and 5th graders and might go to Bayside Davis to help out in children’s ministry. thank you for all your love and support!

Blessings,
Elizabeth Garrison

Why Thrive School?

When you were growing up, what types of peer pressures and challenges did students face in high school and college? What about today? Do you think it's easier or harder to be a young person today? Why?

God has called us to reach the 225,000 students within a radius of Thrive School. As I think of those in our area, the challenges are overwhelming.

1) Our youth are in trouble!

We have compiled some alarming statistics. In the next 24 hours:

2,989 Children will see their parents get divorced

1,629 Children will be put in adult jails

3,288 Children will run away from home

1,849 Children will be abused or neglected

2,200 Teenagers will drop out of school

437 Teenagers will be arrested for drunk driving

500 Teenagers will begin using drugs

1,000 Teenagers will begin using alcohol

211 Teenagers will be arrested for drug abuse

3,610 Teenagers will be assaulted, 80 will be raped

2,796 Teenagers will get pregnant

7,742 Teenagers will become sexually active

1,106 Teenagers will get abortions

6,849 Teenagers will contract an STD

50 Teenagers will attempt suicide

6 Teenagers will successfully commit suicide

135,000 Teenagers will bring guns or other weapons to school

2) Most Christian youth in are leaving the church after high school.

70-75% of Christian youth LEAVE the church after high school.

Those who remain Christian in college face incredible opposition on campus.

3) We must train the future leaders of our generation.

The students on high school and college campuses today are our leaders of today and tomorrow.

This generation of leaders has the drive, and social media skills to change this world.

If we truly desire to reach our world, we have to start where future leaders are shaped.

Ray Johnston, the pastor of Bayside Church said recently, "There’s a major battle raging for the hearts and minds of students today. If we lose our young people, we lose our community. If we lose our community, we lose our culture. If we lose our culture, we lose the world."

In my school, I see every day the battles that students are facing.

Would you agree that we can't sit back and let this keep happening? It will take ALL OF US to reverse these statistics! Something needs to be done.

I am doing this program because...

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal." Matthew 6:19-20

Everything here on Earth is only temporary and it is God’s will to create a New Heaven and New Earth in the future. There are only two things that you can bring to heaven – yourself and the people you’ve influenced. God has called us to be a light in the world to share His love with each other. By being a part of Thrive School of Leadership, I will gain a better understanding of what I believe so that I may teach others.

What is the main Goal?

Before I explain my main goal is, let me tell you what helped me realize it. This past summer, I was JN316 at Bayside Folsom’s vacation bible school, Breakaway. Her most important lines were at the end of the week when she recited John 3:16 and lead kids to Christ, her original purpose being fulfilled. I realized that her and I weren’t very different; our purposes the same.

My main goal for Thrive is to help me build the skills needed to better share what a relationship with God is and show miracles. Something I hope to do later in life is be an actress for Pure Flix Films because they based on true stories of people standing up for their faith. Going through Thrive would be a kick start on developing myself as a follower of Christ and a leader to people around me. Nothing that Thrive offers, from fellowship groups to serving opportunities, goes against what I believe is going to help me meet my main goal.

What will I be doing at Thrive School?

The mission of Thrive School is to equip students like me to make a difference not just today, but for the rest of our lives. Through an intense nine-month program I will receive personal mentoring and leadership development while at the same time taking college classes. In addition, I will be receiving intense training on relationships, apologetics, foundational theology, time management, communication and even personal finances.

I will also be involved in many projects to unleash compassion including Trunk or Treat, monthly outreaches to our community and a gigantic missions trip to Mexico with over 1,000 people.

How are students supported at Thrive School?

Like many other missions organizations, Thrive School students depend upon the gifts of friends who have a heart for young people. These funds will be allocated for leadership training, outreach, resources and living expenses for the nine-month program. Each student is responsible for raising his/her personal support. I must find a team of partners who will give financially to help us reach students for Christ.

Will you partner with me to reach this generation?

Obviously, a life-changing school like this is not free. The cost of the nine-month program is $6,000 due in 3 payments of $1,833.33 on Aug 1Nov 1, and Feb 1. At Thrive School we have a great opportunity to partner together to reach, mentor and change the lives of thousands of students. Would you join our team with a monthly gift of $50, $75, $100 or some other amount through February?

Update #8

Hello friends and family:)

My progress on fundraising:

I’m now halfway there towards my goal of finishing my last payment in Thrive School. My total is $970/1,833.33. It’s a huge blessing knowing that I have your love and support to help me continue and finish Thrive School. Without your generosity and prayers I wouldn’t be able to continue doing what I love most. I would love your continued prayers and being apart of my team financially or apart of my prayer team. It’s amazing to see the way God provides through it all. At Bayside College the pastor said one of my favorite quotes “faith can move mountains but doubt can create them”. I keep that in mind knowing that nothing not even finances can separate you from what your called to do. Any amount you give is a blessing. Even $10 or $20 or whatever you feel called to give. If you want to know more about Thrive School there are more updates on Facebook and my Fundly account. I would also love to talk to you on the phone or in person. You’re probably wondering what the money goes too. The money goes to retreats, classes, conferences, Mexico missions trip and so much more. The payment deadline was February 1st. Thrive School is giving me 2 weeks to work on fundraising so that I have the opportunity to finish Thrive School. Thank you for all your love and support. You are a blessing!

Blessings,
Lizzy

Update #7

Hello friends:)

I wanted to give you an update on my ministry and fundraising. I absolutely love the 4th and 5th graders especially the small group of girls I get to lead. I would love to continue mentoring these girls, learning from leaders at D time, and experiencing the support I get from my D group; but without the donations from people like you none of that would be possible. This year we had to think of one word that we wanted to work on this year. My word is BOLD. Thrive School has opened many opportunities to step out of my comfort zone. God revealed to me just from stepping out of my comfort zone that I want to be a children’s pastor. I learned that it’s more detrimental to not take the risk because if you don’t take the risk you’ll never know if that’s what you're meant to do. You're probably wondering where the money goes for our Thrive School tuition, the money goes to the Mexico missions trip, Thrive conferences, classes, retreats, commissioning and so much more. You helping me reach towards my goal is a huge blessing. If you can’t help financially I would love for you to be apart of my prayer team. Thank you for all your love and support!

Update #6

My Progress on fundraising: I started out in Thrive School with not that much money for my fundraising. It’s amazing to see how much I’ve raised within just a few months. I have raised money for 2 out of 3 payments and each payment is $1,833.33. For my 3rd payment so far I have $210/1833.33. Any amount you give is a huge blessing towards my goal. Were so close to my goal. This year in Thrive School God Has shown me that nothing not even finances can separate you from what God has called you to do. If you are not able to donate at this time I would love you to be apart of my prayer team. You are a blessing. Thank you for your love and support!

Update #2

Serve day is this event at Bayside Church. We shut down the church and go out and be the church. I got to serve with my host family at an elementary school. We pulled weeds and put in bark. We made the school pretty again. I got to talk to Lincoln Brewster during serve day and I would recommend to look at his Facebook page. He talked about all that we did for serve day including many projects and how much we impacted the community
