To fund : 1) campaigns and engagement with people to change their mindset from consumptionist to conservatives; and 2) Purchase of sensors to measure PM1.0, 2.5 and 10.0 air quality on real time basis across Malaysia
Air pollution is a growing concern. Every year, Malaysians face polution from smoke haze from forest fires and open burning in South-East region especially when it is blown from smoke fires in our direction.
Despite the public warnings and introduction of new laws and regulations, these initiatives are insufficient to address the ineffective enforcement, slow govt agency actions and misleading API measurements. Research has shown that air pollution can negatively affect individual's health. Evidence also shows that short term exposure to dust and smoke affects the health of children, the elderly and people with weaken immunity in surrounding areas.
We cannot fight all battles but we can start with the battles closest to our hearts i.e in our communities and in Malaysia. We need funding for campaigns to change mindset (from consumption to conservation) and to develop and deploy a network of low-cost yet effective sensors within malaysia .
By improving the people engagement and sensor accuracy through crowdsourcing, we aim to deliver the real-time readings, forward predictive readings and more importantly solutions so that the people can effectively plan for their activities to minimise the pollution effects and get the best possible air quality confidence ratings for people using self developed handphone apps.
