I am raising funds to create an afterschool program for the children in El Cuyo, Yucatan, Mexico. These funds will be the initial seed money to test/research classes and clubs best for local children in El Cuyo.
I am reaching out to my friends and family asking for your help with an idea. As you may know, we are living in El Cuyo, Yucatan, Mexico. We came to El Cuyo for a family sabbatical and fell in love with the place, people and the slow life. We have decided to stay indefinitely.
El Cuyo is a small fisherman village with a small expat and local community of 2000 people. 40% who are children. There are four public schools in the pueblo: kinder, elementary, middle school and high school. Many of the kids do not have access to extracurricular programs or tutoring, as most of the parents' education stops before high school.
My Idea? I want to build out a small afterschool program to provide additional enrichment and tutoring for the children in El Cuyo. Using local teachers and administrators to support the program.
How can you help? I am hoping to raise ~$2500 to kickstart the program. Allow me to start the classes and gather some data and determine the best path to create a non-profit and fundraise for the program.
Why will this work? I started providing free English Classes (10-week session) to the community in February 2020. 12 low-income kids attended plus my children (Luka and Rio) as teachers helpers. I hired a local teacher. The teacher was incredible and all of the kids were engaged and learning. I saw the children starving for more. I would love to continue to build out a program for the children of El Cuyo offering tutoring hours, english class, art, STEM, sports, dance, music and more.
To give you an idea of costs.
English Session. Children build on skills each week. Kids sign-up w/tracked attendance.
Other Art, STEM, Music, Tutoring Clubs, etc. Open to any child. Each the club will focus on fun, interesting topic.
For those of you who donate, I promise to follow up with you on the progress of the program. We will start the classes this fall and follow the same COVID-19 protocols as the public school are doing in Mexico.
Can’t donate? Please share. Even a quick share on Facebook can help.
The average share raises $97.
