Easier and Safer Travels for College

Easier and Safer Travels for College

From Daniela Leal

Hello. My name is Daniela, and I’m a student. I'm raising money to help pay for cost of living to be over 50 miles closer to school and work and to stay safe during the winter months. Anything is greatly appreciated!

Hello. My name is Daniela, and I’m a college student in southeast Michigan. My time in college has been a great experience so far, and with it has come more involvement on campus. I’m currently on a pre-med track, so I’ve gotten involved with a few different organizations that have allowed me to give back and volunteer for the nearby community, to volunteer for a national crisis hotline, and to also take advantage of other educational opportunities by shadowing some healthcare professionals. As of now, I’ve also been attending school full-time taking on 2-4 credits above the minimum amount of credits needed per semester to be considered full-time, so I’ve had a somewhat hectic schedule already. To top things off, I plan to soon take on a tutoring job in the behavioral sciences department as well as a part-time job as a phlebotomist/lab technician. Planning my next semester schedule around these jobs will be a little challenging, but it’s manageable. The major problem is with commuting.

The drive from my house where I currently live to my school is anywhere between 45-50 minutes on a good day, and can increase by up to an hour with traffic. This means that I drive close to two hours a day as it is, meaning I need to set aside a significant amount of time of my day just to driving. This however is the case with good weather. Since I live in Michigan, we tend to get several bad storms during the winter months, and this in turn affects the roads. Driving to school already takes a while as is, but driving during the winter not only makes the total commuting time longer, but also significantly more dangerous. For all these reasons, I’ve decided it would be best to move closer to school. If both my school and my work are in the same city, it would make sense to do be there. Since I can’t afford to take out any loans and since a part-time job isn’t nearly enough to help pay for cost of living, I’m asking for your help. My goal is to raise enough to help me afford cost of living for about a year, so any donation will be greatly appreciated.
