Clare and Haley seek donations to take students on snorkeling trips to a local reef in Bangsak, Thailand. Each boat can take 20 students. Excess funds will supplement the program with snacks and gear for the students.
We will make your contribution 100% transparent by showing you how your donation has been utilized. You can also expect thank you notes from kiddos!
Earthraging with English is a service project in Southern Thailand that teaches students at R35 in Bangsak water-safe skills, about their marine backyard environment, all while improving English skills. The pilot program began last year with help from ESL teacher Brady Valashinas and Wicked Diving Community Outreach Director Christa Fontaine. It's continuation this year had been made possible by Princeton in Asia CarrieBright Fellowship and Wicked Diving. Check out our website for more information earthraging.org
About the school: R35 was devastated by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Thousands of people died in the disaster and the local school was completely destroyed. Fast-forward to over ten years later: R35 has been rebuilt with help from the Thai Government and the school educates and boards over 700 students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Most of the students don't know how to swim, nor are they aware of their incredible marine backyard that caters to thousands of SCUBA-diving tourists every year. By teaching students water-safe skills, environmental stewardship and about potential employment opportunities in the diving industry, Earthraging with English envisions a better future for these kids and the local environment. At the least, students will have skills that could save them from drowning. Check out more about the ESL program here: http://www.r35eslexperience.com/
