Youth Resources’ Teen Advisory Council is a peer-led group of 150 high school students from every public, parochial, and charter high school in Evansville, Castle and Mt. Vernon who involve themselves in our community through service and fundraising events, leadership training, and civic engagement. These highly motivated servant-leaders meet every other Friday during the school year at 5:55am. Active TAC members make youth issues a top priority and spend a great deal of time being a positive role model for their peers.

The goals of the Teen Advisory Council are:

  • Encourage volunteerism and enable youth to identify and implement youth-led service projects that meet a specific community need
  • Assist schools and youth-serving agencies in developing community service opportunities which enhance character education
  • Build youth and adult partnerships through the planning and implementation of their projects
  • Strengthen and improve communities as a result of youth-led projects
  • Reduce risky behavior among youth
  • Encourage life-long volunteerism

TAC makes a lasting change on young people who, in turn, continue to volunteer throughout adulthood as a result of their participation in the program. During their involvement, TAC members learn practical applications of academic learning; use cognitive and social skills; develop future leadership skills; and realize their ability to meet community needs. Service projects help students develop their personal leadership skills, define their career goals, gain a better appreciation for their academic work, and develop a spirit of involving themselves in the community. TAC encourages students to feel empowered, which influences their personal, academic, civil, and social development.

Your support will provide breakfast at TAC meetings and purchase supplies for service and fundraising events.

Meet a TAC Alumni: Clair Apuan

I absolutely would have considered myself a shy person going into high school. I really wanted to meet new people, but I never knew what to say. I was always the person that would wait around in the background awkwardly. Through TAC, I feel like I had the opportunity to throw myself into positive social situations that helped me push my limits and grow as an individual.

The biggest impact on my life from TAC has been the people that I met. I really found a place in TAC where I could share my excitement about events that we planned and in general about serving the community. I found some really great role models that have broadened my perspective on life and supported me in my ambitions and hobbies alike. I would tell anyone thinking about getting involved in YR to just do it! There’s really nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Claire was involved in YR’s programs from 2010-2014. She attends Dartmouth College and plans to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering.
