Help us address the challenge of improving literacy in Liberia. More than 42% of primary-aged children are currently out of school in Liberia. The rate is even higher for the children who live in under-resourced communities. In addition to this, more than half of young adults are illiterate. Over two-thirds of girls do not have basic reading skills. COVID-19 pandemic has even made the literacy situation more critical.
IGESD, a local Liberian NGO that operates in Grand Bassa and Monrovia Counties in Liberia, aims to use technology and community development to improve literacy rates. IGESD was established in November 2019 to create equal opportunity in education and access to socio-economic opportunities for vulnerable children. We will work with IGESD to implement a Literacy Innovation Center to improve the reading skills of more than 10,000 vulnerable students in 10 public schools in Liberia using the AI-based Literacy Attainment Coach beginning in October 2021.
HP Literacy Attainment Coach is an AI technology that determines literacy levels through eye-tracking. After determining the literacy level of each student, IGESD will provide targeted educational intervention through interactive workshops that suit their level.
In addition to this, IGSED will also work hand-in-hand with their school teachers by training them to improve their teaching and digital-learning skills.
With the help of your donations:
We will improve the reading attainment levels of 10,000 students in a range of Liberian schools.
Reduce the rate of young girls dropping out of school. The girls' primary school completion rate is far behind that of boys, at 76% compared with 85% for boys.
Develop digitally-driven Education Quality Assurance Technology in Liberian Schools.
Improve teaching and digital skills of schoolteachers in 10 Liberian schools.
We are kindly requesting the funding of 20K USD to run the Literacy Attainment Program for students in Liberia. This program will bridge the gaps in reading barriers and elevate literacy levels among 10000 young students aging from 4 to 10 years old. Any amount of donations will help – and the program can be launched with a minimum of 3.5K USD.
We are delighted to provide more information about our Literacy Attainment Program, success evidence is attached to this.
