Dingo's Health

From Lizzi Schoenbeck

Dingo has recently developed a peripheral vestibular disease. He will be undergoing a number of diagnostic tests in order to make a diagnosis of the cause, as it is potentially life-threatening.

Update #5

It has been a week and I still can't comprehend where Dingo has gone. The bills from his vet care are beginning to come in and it is such a painful reminder. Over $5,000 in the course of a month in an attempt to save him. I am left in shambles with a house that is now too big and too much. I had planned this whole year for us to be together 24/7 with a stay at home job. Everything is empty and about 10 degrees colder. I am doing my best to stay present.
I am not too proud to beg: donations will still make a difference, as it is going to be a very long road back to the security I had before Dingo left. Please reach out if you are able, all of your messages help relieve this grief.
Thank you to those who have already donated. You gave him and I an extra week of absolute bliss, love, and glory.

More Info

Dingo has been my beloved companion for just over 10 years. His health has recently taken a turn in the development of a "head tilt" which in the course of one week has progressed to imbalance, falling, and weakness. These symptoms are alarming - after going to the vet for his initial testing, no diagnosis was made. Today he will begin a number of diagnostic tests in order for us to receive an accurate diagnosis of his "peripheral vestibular disease."

We are hoping for a diagnosis with potential for possible recovery. We are in the middle of an out-of-state move so this has come at a most inopportune time - we are doing our best to use the savings we have but want to be prepared for the extent of Dingo's health needs. Please, anything you can offer will be most appreciated, Dingo is sending you so many kisses.

Update #4

Dingo has regressed. After moving to Ohio and having a fantastic week of improvement, (we even skated together!), his brain swelling has increased. We had an unfortunate and horrible experience at an emergency vet in Ohio and he did not receive proper care. Dingo continued to degrade and I made the decision to drive overnight to get Dingo to his initial neurologist for an MRI. There is an abscess in his brain likely caused by infection and not a tumor. He received additional antibiotics and improved incredibly overnight and was projected to be coming home today. In a matter of hours, this morning, Dingo is in a critical state. He is currently receiving medication to assist in decreasing the swelling in his brain. He is still fighting and recognized me when I spent time with him earlier. He is still here and we will know in a few hours or so if he will be able to continue his fight for life. I am doing the best that I can. Please have us in your thoughts today. Please donate to his fund if you are able, even $5 makes an impact. Thank you for all of the continued love, thoughts and donations. We love you all.
Here is Dingo last Friday, after skating and running around the yard. Happy Dingo.

Update #3

Dingo regressed overnight last night to the point where he was unable to move this morning. After seeing the emergency vet at midnight and again this morning at 11 am, we'd decided to request an MRI/CT scan for him. After being seen by the neurologist, it was determined an emergency MRI would not be necessary yet as - though his symptoms are frightening - they are in line with a possible inner ear infection causing a peripheral vestibular disorder.
Tonight, Dingo is being hospitalized overnight to stay stabilized until his symptoms improve. He'll be receiving a new antibiotic. If his symptoms do not improve by Monday, a CT/MRI will be in order. Being without him tonight is incredibly painful, but the prognosis for his possible inner ear infection is hopeful. Please keep us in your thoughts. Here's Dingo two days ago with his heart on his sleeve.

Update #2

Here's a dizzy Dingo between his chest X-Ray and abdominal ultrasound. Yesterday was a little scary as Dingo had noticeably regressed from previous days. We decided to go forward with continued diagnostic testing. After yesterday's visit, our bills have exceeded $1,500, but we are so much closer to receiving answers - or at the very least a prognosis - for Dingo's vestibular disorder. An MRI/CT scan is the recommended next step. Dingo is stable for the time being and has even improved in the past 24 hours. We expect more good/bad days as we attempt to find out if the antibiotics are addressing the issue or if it is something more life-threatening. Dingo says thank you, one thousand times.

Update #1

Dingo was sent to the ER today after being seen by his regular vet again. Nothing out of the ordinary was found from Dingo's blood work panel test results tonight. We were sent home with antibiotics to treat it as a peripheral vestibular disorder. If these do not help improve his symptoms, we go back in for X-Rays and further image diagnostics to exclude cancer and other masses as the cause before opting for an MRI/Ultrasounds, etc. Please continue to think of us and send positive energy. He is resting up for tonight. Thank you to those who have offered donations, they've already provided a sense of relief. Please like or share if possible.
