"A group of 20 students and two faculty members are traveling to Munich & Berlin during Maymester (May). This year's trip will be led by faculty members, Scott Farrand and Dr. Andrea Tanner.
University of South Carolina communications majors representing electronic and print journalism, public relations/advertising and visual communications will team up to produce stories across all media – old and new. For about 15 days, teams of students will practice multimedia journalism in both Munich and Berlin. Last year, teams produced in-depth coverage of Germany street performers, university life, food & lifestyle, and its healthcare system.
Each team of 4 students will create:1) a documentary or broadcast video story; 2) a video podcast; 3) a print story; 4) a still photo package; and 5) print design for story/photos. Students will also learn to cope with significant language and transportation challenges while having to adapt to new living accommodations, such as a Munich hostel with more than 800 youths. Possible sidetrips include visits to two famous castles, the Dachau concentration camp, the BMW plant, and a bike tour in Berlin."
