David Bao Lam Nguyen was diagnosed with stomach cancer, in the late summer of 2011, at the age of 19. In defiance of illness, David remained optimistic, and grateful for the life ahead. Never had he felt embittered nor allowed cancer to get in the way of his own happiness. David managed to touch the lives of many others with his positive attitude, infectious smile and loving kindness.

When asked of his critical condition, David would often say “It is what it is. I'm just living day by day everyday like it’s my last. Smile. Laugh and just love life.  Cancer had given me a different perspective on life. I love life more and more each day. And I try not taking anything for granted.”

Despite his optimism, strength and courage, David passed away on 2/23/14 at the age of 21, after 2.5 years of chemotherapy. No parent should have to endure the pain of losing a young child. Our hearts are broken for David's mother, brother and sister. Along with the heartache and many other difficult emotions, his family also had to cover many expenses from David's previous medical fees to funeral.

David’s mother, Mrs. Loan Nguyen, is currently raising David’s 2 younger siblings on her own since David’s father had also died of cancer more than a decade ago. This fundraising campaign (with the aim to help ease the family’s burden) was initially opened right after David’s decease but closed shortly after since Mrs. Nguyen, at the time, was still in shock, overwhelmed, and feeling uneasy to accept donations.

Almost 3 months had gone by but David has not yet been forgotten. Justin Nguyen, a friend of David, had originally supported and donated to this campaign back in February, found more friends who are interested in making contributions to the family. Justin spoke to David’s grieving mother recently and persuaded her to accept our help. She is now trusting and relying on our support.

Please try to contribute as much or as little as you can, as it is the thought that truly counts. All of the funds will go directly to David's family, which are greatly appreciated. If you cannot afford to donate, please try to leave a comment or memory of David on the wall. For sure his family will find comfort in reading them. Thank you!!!
