We are almost at our goal for the Student Data Grant!

Received donation(s) over the weekend that takes us to C$851. Our goal is C$1,000 so please do the math and donate, please and thank you.

Thank you to all who have assisted us so far with donations to our Student Data Grant campaign.
We started rolling out the data to the selected children of Gibraltar All-Age School in St. Ann Jamaica.

When we wrote to the school, we told them we had enough money for three (3) children for three months. The Principal and her staff told us last week that is was such a challenge trying to select only three as the need is so great in the area.

So, they sent us a list of nine children PLUS their siblings!

We decided to go ahead with seven (7) plus siblings, who will have secondary access the data through hot spot. In effect, the campaign will be assisting about 21 children!!!

Started sending out the data yesterday and along with 3-year-old Adam, who was the first child to receive data from us, data was sent to three other children - Oral, Jaheel and Sanika. All three are in the upper grades and are preparing for school-leaving exams.

There were some technical issues, on the parents' side, regarding the other four children that we hope will get sorted asap. Will update once data is sent to these children.

Meet Adam. He is our first recipient of the Student Data Grant.

Adam's mother, Joanna, interacted with us via Facebook and in conversation with her, she mentioned saving her data to facilitate Adam's school work.

While he is only three years old, he attends a basic school in St. Ann, Jamaica and his teacher provides paper assignments. Joanna works with Adam to complete the assignments and then takes a picture of it and send by Whatsapp to his teacher.

Hearing this, we selected Adam as our first recipient although he is not a student of the selected school - Gibraltar All-Age,

Data was credited to Joanna's account for the month of October.

Those are the words Daughters of Sheba Foundation received from the Principal of Gibraltar All-Age School, located in St. Ann, Jamaica. She was responding to our formal invitation to be the recipient school for this Student Data Grant Campaign.

Schools are scheduled to reopen on October 7, 2020, on the island and while we will be able to support at least three students with what you have donated so far, would you consider helping us further?

Children need to attend school some way, somehow and your help is needed.

Daughters of Sheba Foundation has received over a quarter of our goal of C$1,000 to help buy data for at least 10 students in rural Jamaica.

We have identified one school in St. Ann, Jamaica to work with but we need to get to the halfway mark by the end of September!

It' is a new month. Happy September to all!

Under normal circumstance, students in most parts of the world would either have returned to school or would be doing so today.

Due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in Jamaica, the Government of that country has decided to postpone the regular return schedule. It has been pushed back until October 2020. At this time, it is unclear whether this will be a full return to in-class sessions or a blend of online learning and physical attendance.

What we have seen in numerous countries is that a return to in-class sessions has many risks of spreading the virus. The Government of Jamaica through various programmes will be assisting many with Tablets to facilitate online learning.

That is where your help continues to be needed! The cost of data is prohibitive for many families but with a donation from you of C$35 or more, you could help one child or several children to get back on track.

We are now in the process of selecting children from one school in the parish of St. Ann. Working closely with the Principal, we have enough resources at this time to pay for the data cost of at least three children for the three months of this initiative.

As COVID-19 resurges in Jamaica (and across some parts of the world) the Government of Jamaica has delayed the re-opening of schools until October 2020.

It remains uncertain how many in-class sessions there will be and how many children will be able to access online learning. Our campaign date has been extended according to the Government's announcement.

We launched this campaign precisely to assist children with online learning and thanks to several kind Donors, we now C$372 with 96 days to go in this campaign.

We are in talks with two local data service providers to access a great rate for monthly service. Once we have that agreement, we will finalise how many children we can assist.

Now, who will be the next ones to get us to or at least closer to our goal?

We are now at C$286 our of C$1,000!

That means we can cover data cost for three (3) children for the length of the initiative - September - December 2020!

Hoping more donations will come in. We will share, as permitted by the parents, as much information as we are allowed about the recipients.

Day one of our campaign has passed, we are now into the second day. We are reaching out to our friends and family everywhere to help us meet this goal.

Already, we have received a couple of commitments but until the $$ is in the bank, the count here will not change.
