Update #2

We had an amazing day yesterday thanks to the wonderful food provided by the "Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom." It's getting colder out, but that doesn't stop us from providing food and company to the community! Check out the Sisterhood's website to learn more about this inspiring organization. https://sosspeace.org/

More Info

Every Wednesday, the Community  Kitchen at Centenary United Methodist Church of Lambertville, NJ hosts a hot lunch for upwards of a hundred area residents.  The people who flock to the Kitchen represent a cross section of the community.  From the affluent to the homeless, young and old, the weekly meals have evolved to meet the need of the area’s ever-changing population.  The meals are prepared by  several teams of  dedicated volunteers.  One group operates the kitchen on Tuesday evenings, prepping fruits and vegetables or cooking some of the more time-consuming dishes on Wednesday’s menu.  A second group starts preparing the rest of the meal around 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning in order have everything ready by the 11:30 a.m. start time.  Volunteers also help prepare the bag lunches to be taken to the homeless, and do clean-up duty when the lunch is over.

The Kitchen is funded solely through donations:  from guests at the weekly luncheon, to faith groups and service organizations who sponsor approximately one third of the meals, to local businesses, families, friends, and neighbors; these amazing people and organizations all donate their time and  resources to help sustain this endeavor.

Thank you to everyone whose helped  continue the Community Kitchen’s mission of providing a comforting  environment where people can gather and enjoy the company of new and old friends while receiving a nutritious meal.

Update #1

We recently celebrated Thanksgiving with a wondrous feast! Thank you all who joined us last Wednesday. We served over 100 people and were able to send about 75 lunches to the homeless in Trenton.
