My name is Rafay. Me and my cousins have decided to launch this campaign in order to help our beloved grandpa Marcelino Mejias. In his home town “Los Teques” in Venezuela, he is a well-known artisan and living cultural heritage. Together with our grandma Marina, he made a tiny museum out of their small house.
Unfortunately our grandpa suffers from diabetes and hypertension and has already gone through 2 heart surgeries. Since the political and economic crisis emerged in Venezuela, our grandparents were not able to cover their basic needs with a monthly pension of 6 €.
Until now, we as a family were able to sustain them in their basic needs and the medication of our grandpa. Now, with the “Coronacrisis” we are reaching our financial limits. Because of the closure of borders the prices for medications, especially for Insulin are rising exponentially. We can’t ensure that our grandpa will get his crucial medications beyond next month.
With this campaign we want to enable our grandpa to endure this crisis healthily, so that he can keep on inspiring people with his art. To ensure his medical care he needs 750 € on a monthly basis. Our goal is to take this worry from him, for the next few months.
The title of his art exhibition in Tübingen in 2011 was “Tiny worlds – Big impacts”. We truly believe that this small initiative will have a huge impact on the quality of life of our grandpa Marcelino Mejías.
