Being raised in a small town with little resources and navigating generational poverty, my needs have always been prioritized in a way that meant medical expenses generally had to wait until they were an emergency before they were addressed. After decades of hard work and dedication, I've been able to overcome many of those roadblocks and challenges, but recently I was stopped in my tracks.
After dealing with a lifetime of chronic pain and several failed, poorly-financed efforts of attempting to diagnose the root cause, I was once again forced into an emergency medical situation this summer. I was immobilized and have been temporarily out of work as a result. But this time I finally have a diagnosis and a clear, tangible path to recovery - so I have hope! But I need to be able to afford the treatment plan to prevent me from being back in the hospital facing emergency back surgeries so early in my life.
