During my time in San Ramon, Costa Rica I will work within the rural communities, gaining insight into the medical issues and vast healthcare needs that this impoverished nation faces on a daily basis.
This phrase (-rah bEE-duh) is the most common greeting, motto, and philosophy of Costa Rica! It is translated to mean “pure life” and encapsulates living in peace while appreciating a life surrounded by nature, family, and friends.
Keeping in mind, come Easter this year I have decided to spread peace and dedicate what would be my “spring break” to serving the least of those in rural clinics and hospitals of San Ramón in the Alajuela Province of Costa Rica. This location is in the Cordillera de Tilarán mountains, at an elevation of 1,057 meters above sea level and a 50-minute drive from the country’s capital San Jose.
This mission trip gives me the opportunity to work within the communities, gaining insight into the medical issues and vast healthcare needs that this nation faces on a daily basis. During my time, I will be assisting doctors in the treatment of patients, helping sort medical supplies, working in emergency situations, and teaching health awareness workshops to educate the impoverished of the area and improve the prospects of the people.
While there, I will be living with a local host family to get an authentic glimpse into the life and character of the local ‘Tico’ people. This means I get to work right alongside locals and dive deep into their culture, learn how to cook Costa Rican staples, enhance my Spanish, and create a long-lasting bond with the country.
I am now reaching out to friends and family and asking for donations of support in this endeavor. I have set up a volunteer fund that, unlike Go Fund Me, does not charge a fee to either the donating party or the receiving party. Even donations as small as $1 are greatly appreciated and don’t go unnoticed. Every penny counts! If you have any questions regarding my trip or want more information, don’t hesitate to contact me via email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Thank you so very much and
Anngilyn Dombrowski, RN
