In the wake of the ongoing suffering caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Orlando-based artists Scalco and Franchise the Rapper are on a mission to deliver 20,000 face masks to Central Florida hospitals.
Hi! I'm Anthony Scalco.
Along with my brothers Mike (Franchise the Rapper) and Chris (Scalco) Scalco, and New York-based clothing line King Krit, we are on a mission to donate 20,000 face masks to medical professionals in Central Florida hospitals.
My entire family lost our jobs due the COVID-19 pandemic. So my brothers and I decided to make good use of our time off and do what we do best: make music. But we didn't want to write about our fears; we wanted to have fun. Inspired by funk, new jack swing, and early '80s hip-hop, our first joint EP Corona Funk takes a humorous look at our circumstances.
Our first single from the project, "Quarantine", and its accompanying music video and dance challenge #quarantinechallenge, are garnering an unprecedented amount of positive attention on Instagram and YouTube.
Using our newfound platform to springboard this effort, we decided to call King Krit, a New York-based clothing line, to start creating face masks for medical professionals in Central Florida hospitals. The obvious challenge is the lack of funds - this is where you come in.
After working out the logistics with King Krit, we have concluded that with $10,000, we can acquire 20,000 reusable and washable cotton face masks. There are serious shortages of face masks as the ever-growing number of confirmed cases is soaking up their already-limited supply. The need is urgent and only becoming more so every day. The idea is that if every medical professional has a reusable face mask, we can slow down our use as more N95 masks are manufactured.
All funds collected, as well as monies earned from streaming and YouTube monetization on Corona Funk and "Quarantine" will go directly towards manufacturing and purchasing these face masks.
We fully empathize with the financial insecurity that has come with this pandemic. Please consider donating in this trying time. If you are unable to, please consider partaking in our #QuarantineChallenge to spread awareness and provide some fun during these uncertain times.
We will get through this together, and we will come out of it much stronger than we entered. Thank you so much for your consideration.
