Boston Marathon 2015 for the Corey C. Griffin Foundation

Boston Marathon 2015 for the Corey C. Griffin Foundation

From Ryan Lannon

I am running the 119th Boston Marathon on April 20th, 2015 to honor Griff and to keep his spirit of giving alive. His foundation is a force multiplier of 'pay it forward' philanthropy, just like him. Thanks in advance.

Griff on fitness:  "When a girl sees a guy with a good body she thinks, "Oh, he must work out."  When a girl sees a guy with a body like mine she thinks, "Wow, that guy knows how to party."

Griff on fun: "Never leave the house without a costume packed. Just in case."

Griff on philanthropy:   Of all the gifts Corey gave me with his friendship, the most lasting impression may just be how much he went out of his way to give back to others. And like everything he did, he went big . I had the honor to play in the Boston Bruin's NHL Alumni Pro/Am Tournament he helped organize, which raised over $500,000 for the Boston Children's Hospital last spring. He would never talk about this stuff, and we only found out about his personal contribution of raising $100,000 for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge after his tragic passing.

I know it seems selfish, but I lived with a lot of guilt after his death because I was one of the 3 people he nominated for the challenge, and while I made a small contribution to the cause, I never posted a video and part of the fundraising trail ended with me...

I wanted it to be special. I texted him that I was going to throw a bucket of cold water on my girlfriend while she was sleeping. I looked into renting a dunk tank. But when all was said and done I didn't come through before this tragedy occurred.

Simply put, he was one of the coolest people I knew. And the nicest. And most generous. And now I have a chance to honor him. I will be running in the 119th Boston Marathon, with all training and fundraising inspiration being done to keep his  spirit of giving alive.

I hate that this charity even exists. Griff should still be here smiling and showing us all how to live. But under the circumstances what I love about his charity is that it is a 'force multiplier' if you will, allowing philanthropic entrepreneurs the opportunity to fulfill their plans of helping others.  Even though he is no longer with us physically, I feel his 'pay it forward' spirit alive and well in myself and so many others, and have made a personal pledge to keep fitness, fun, and philanthropy a part of as many future endeavors as possible.

If you have a moment to contribute to the cause before April 20th, it would be much appreciated.

Much love & thanks a heartfelt thanks in advance,

Lanno
