WHY COMMUNITY PRIDE IN CENTRAL OHIO:

Columbus Community Pride began in 2017 as a response to how local organization Stonewall Columbus reacted to police brutality against Black members of our own community participating in in peaceful protest during the Stonewall Pride parade. Headed by grassroots organizers in Black Queer & Intersectional Collective and other community members in central Ohio, Community Pride came together because we wanted to celebrate Pride while centering QTIPOC voices, experiences, and their safety. Community Pride strives as a community-based coalition to provide a safe space for LGBTQIA+ people to celebrate their lives and share in one another’s joy without pinkwashed capitalist co-opting for corporate profits or fear of police interference, surveillance, or threat of violence. We honor and uplift the safety and liberty of the most marginalized in our communities across our many intersections of oppression.

The #BlackPride4 was arrested on June 17th, 2017 and Stonewall neglected to make an apologetic statement on the injustice of the situation and their failed response until October 30th, 2019, too little too late. We can only hope that Stonewall learns to listen to and better support QTIPOC members of the Columbus LGBTQIA+ community, but in the meantime we are here to advocate and organize for ourselves. With the current political landscape where Black people are fighting for our lives in the streets every single day amidst a global pandemic, it is more important than ever to provide an alternative Pride that is FOR our community BY our community.

WHAT COMMUNITY PRIDE LOOKS LIKE THIS YEAR:

The 3rd annual Community Pride: FTP festival is currently set to take place virtually on Saturday, October 24th. What does FTP stand for? FTP is an acronym that can send many revolutionary messages: For The People! Fight The Power! FUCK THE POLICE! FTP has been a rallying cry for generations of disempowered and disenfranchised people. From the Maroon societies to the Compton Cafeteria Riots to the Attica Uprising to the daring fare-evaders in NYC, movements for real justice have always prioritized people over the powers that be, by any means necessary.

WHERE YOUR DONATIONS GO, COVID-19 RESPONSES & UPDATES!

How do we use the money we collect through this page and our fundraisers? All Community Pride events will ALWAYS be free for everyone to attend and we want to provide the best experience we can. Funds raised help us pay LGBTQIA+ artists, speakers, and performers for their work, secure safe and accessible venues for our events, and provide necessary equipment and support to organizers and all event participants. In the event we have leftover funds from 2020, we can pay our performers and organizers more adequately for their time and efforts, carry over some funds for Community Pride 2021, and redistribute other funds back into our community through local social justice organizations that align with our vision.

** Due to the ongoing health crisis caused by the coronavirus, many of our events leading up to and including the Pride festival will be virtual. While we would love to celebrate together in-person, our organizing team is working to ensure our community can come together safely and online. **

Community Pride stands now and forever against the anti-Black, racist, transphobic, homophobic, capitalist, misogynist, and xenophobic forces that try to take us down. We will never allow a police presence at our events and object to corporate sponsorships. We are still in need of volunteers for some committees, so please be in touch! Fill out the volunteer form here.

Update #2

Pride has decided to go virtual. While that changes a lot of our organizing, preparation, and logistics for the festival, we are still raising funds to pay performers and give back to members of our community affected by the coronavirus or by losing this in-person festival. We have many fundraisers coming up, check us out! bit.ly/ccprideLinks

Update #1

Having some trouble with the Fundly verification so in the meantime you can donate to the BQIC PayPal and they will pass it on to us. Add a note that it's for Pride. We hope to have this fixed before the "Disclosure" Netflix Party Friday! bit.ly/BQICFTP
