Raising fund for Sexual Assault Survivors to having undergarments & clothing when they leave the hospital, after their clothes have been taken as evidence.
The sexual assault forensic examination is one of the hardest things a survivor must endure.
We are lucky in Maine to have a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program which covers all but 5 hospital ER’s.
The exam is long; hours long. And involves collecting meticulous evidence...which is, of course, the person’s body itself.
In addition to photographing the body, taking nail/hair/skin samples, an internal exam & recording the survivor’s report of the assault...her/their clothing is taken into evidence.
SANE (nurses) do their best to personally stock the ER closets with undergarments etc...but many times a survivor leaves in paper underwear, no bra & hospital clothing.
Please contribute to an undergarment & basics fund to help make this already daunting situation a little easier & dignified.
Funds will purchase new comfortable undergarments & basic sweats to be donated to the ER departments in York & Cumberland Counties.
