Climate crisis is one of the major concerns throughout the United States. Climate issues threaten social determinants of health: clean air, safe drinking water, sufficient food, and secure shelter. Due to climate change, healthcare has drastic shifts in population health. The lists of climate issues that people face when they are relocating to farming/agricultural states and new locations in the United States are the following:
Extreme weather events.
Sea level rise & Floods.
Increased temperature due to weather change & Wildfires.
Poor air quality, Air pollution, & Smoking.
Allergen, Vector-borne diseases.
Mental health issues.
Lack of food security and lack of clean water.
Limited access to healthcare & basic services.
Job insecurity is due to many people relocating to new locations for jobs.
Chemicals radiations, and occupational health.
Road safety and injury issues.
Violence, Poverty, Racial Discrimination, & underlying health disparities.
Target users: Populations live in Boston NYC, New Orleans, Houston, Cedar Rapids, SF/LA, Phoenix areas.
Project Goal: Design and build a web prototype that will show and teach the impact of the climate crisis on human health, based on the individual determinants of health such as geography, behavior, and access to medical care. The web prototype will include state-to-state eco policies, which will teach the population how to tackle climate issues when people relocate to a new location. Policies in the web prototype will show possible outcome variability based on where people live and types of national climate policies instituted to protect the population.
