I am ready to serve. As a parent of two Rockwood students, I have spent the last 5 years learning about the Rockwood Administration operations and following the administration and school board decision-making-process regarding budgets, policies, procedures, curriculum, grading, reporting and leadership.

As Co-founder and Spokesperson of a citizens’ watchdog coalition , I lead a team of citizens who have worked tirelessly to bring fiscal responsibility, accountability and transparency to our school district.  Since our inception in June 2011, we have accomplished more than anyone ever imagined. We were not afraid to ask the tough questions. We are advocates for directing more funds towards the classroom rather than expanding administrative expenses.

In November 2011, our team asked Tom Schweich, Missouri State Auditor to consider an audit of the Rockwood School District as soon as possible in 2012.  The audit began July 1st, 2012 and shed light on the lack of financial controls, oversight and outdated fiscal policies.  The audit also forced district leaders to hire a true financial officer to oversee the nearly $250 million dollar budget.

The Board of Education is currently conducting a search for a permanent Superintendent.  The new leader of our district must move Rockwood away from the poor decisions of the past and put the focus back on the one and only area of education that truly matters, the classroom.

Recent elections brought Directors Rogers and Morrell onto the board with a wealth of private sector experience. That change needs to be continued in order to provide fresh ideas and move away from the status quo way of doing business.

That is why I have decided to take leave from RS for RS and run as a candidate for the Rockwood School Board on the April 8th ballot. I’m running on my merit. I’m not afraid to stand up for teachers, parents, students, taxpayers – all stakeholders of our district, and ask the tough questions needed to help shape the future of Rockwood.

I will make every effort to keep citizens informed about the quality and condition of education in our district and to assure that  all transactions of the district are ethical, open and aboveboard.  I humbly ask for your vote.

Thank you,

Eileen Tyrrell
