About Me

Way back in 2013 my Dad asked if I would like to join him and a bunch of crazy, old timers on a Veteran's Build in Vietnam.  Having spent years going to the Legion and the VFW with my Dad, and always feeling like I had a whole bunch of new dad's every time I walked in the door, of course I said yes!  That Build happened in May of 2015, and this next adventure will be my seventh Build in Vietnam (3), Trinidad and Tobago, Brasil (2) and Nepal.

This will be my Dad's sixth and my sister's second in Vietnam.  Mom has also done a Build, but this time she is coming as our cheering section.  All told, over six Builds our family has helped 15 families to feel safe and secure in their new homes in Vietnam.

I knew going into that first Build that it was an important step in the healing process for these vets, but I didn't realize it was going to impact my own perspective on how I was living my life.  I wholeheartedly believe that these Builds are just as much for me as they are for the families we Build with.  Our parents raised Lori and I to serve in whatever way we could.  Whether that was through Girl Scouts, our church, or just helping someone get groceries in their car didn't matter.  That first trip to Vietnam reminded me that service had been missing in my life for a few years, and I am thankful for these opportunities to give back.

So if you would like to help keep me sane ;) please consider a donation to help me make three more families dreams of home ownership come true.  And thank you for your support!

Our team will be comprised of Vietnam Veterans as well as veterans and family members of every era.  Many of the members are returning with Habitat after having built in Vietnam and other Global Village locations.

This trip is for those who have served in our military and want to provide safe and affordable housing.  By participating in this Vietnam Veterans Build in Vietnam, we will see the best in humanity by showing service to others.

Habitat for Humanity Vietnam, established in 2001, specializes in the implementation of sustainable, community-based shelter and water and sanitation solutions. It has experience in rehabilitating and repairing properties damaged by the severe weather that frequently strikes the country’s long coastline. Habitat also works with microfinance networks so families can save and access credit for home improvements, a speedy way to help thousands of families improve their sanitation and housing.

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
