Because their grief looks different than that of an adult’s, children and youth may seem fine, almost appearing unaffected by their loss. What you don’t see is their invisible courage.
From traditional Father-Daughter Dances to Mother-Son Baseball Nights, over 200k school-aged kids can't participate because one or both of their parents are dead. As a school nurse in both small, private schools and presently in a large, urban public school, I assure you grieving school kids are the silent minority. They deserve a campaign to raise gentle awareness of this so life altering event that will one day affect them all.
