Update #4

We are so pleased to announce that donations to our crowdfunding campaign surpassed $1000 over the Black Friday weekend! Every dollar helps our little brand move forward with our big ideas.

We are on schedule to start sending out early adopter (that's you!) shipments within the next two weeks, in time for the holidays. However, we do need to keep our crowdfunding going — getting everything together to make high-quality, professional skincare products costs real money, no matter how small-scale you are.

If you haven't pre-ordered your Chiasm Skin goodies through our crowdfunding campaign yet, now would be an especially helpful time to do so! And if you have friends and family who you think might dig some natural, philosophy-inspired, aesthetically delectable skincare products, please spread the word!

More Info

Philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty thinks that we and the world that we experience are actually two sides of the same coin. You don't just exist as a disembodied soul or as neurons firing in your brain, you exist as an embodied subject in an aesthetic world. And the most immediate way that we experience the world -- and that the world experiences us -- is our skin.

Chiasm Skin seeks to put people back in touch with their own skin as their way of being in the world, and as the means through which the world literally touches us. Skincare allows us to play with this interface between ourselves and the world: it gives us some level of control over our appearance in the world, but perhaps more importantly, it creates a ritualistic space in which we can attend to our skin as the subject of experience.

Chiasm Skin therefore believes that skincare should be aesthetically interesting, enjoyable, stimulating, soothing, and everything in between. Skincare rituals also provide an opportunity to make intimate contact with the natural world through the use of wildcrafted botanical ingredients from specific environmental contexts. These are the thoughts that inspired the first three products in the Chiasm Skin line.

Products:

Horizon: a deep green oil for all skin types, designed to be used as the last step in an evening skincare routine. Horizon features a complex formulation of many smooth, light, nourishing and antioxidant oils such as Prickly Pear, Cloudberry, and Hibiscus, along with plant extracts like Centella Asiatica designed to calm and soothe your skin. Its scent is similarly complex: the luscious herbal/floral aroma of Blue Tansy intertwines with Helichrysum, Lavender, and Chamomile, all of which serve a double function as effective calming and clarifying skin treatments along with their relaxing scent.

Epoché: a translucent teal astonishingly light exfoliating oil for oily and/or acne-prone skin. Epoché takes a two-pronged approach to treating breakouts and the marks they leave behind: the lovely featherlight berry oils it uses (Cloudberry, Blackberry Seed, Blueberry Seed) are high in both antioxidants and nourishing linoleic acid, while gentle plant-based AHAs and BHA work to exfoliate dead skin cells and clogged pores. Just a touch of Blue Tansy adds to the clarifying effect and aesthetic experience.

Wild Being: this is a truly special, unique oil designed for normal to dry skin. Wild Being is a lush, yellow face oil inspired by the desert and infused with wildcrafted desert botanicals. Creosote and Desert Sage -infused Jojoba Oil intermingles with Prickly Pear, Baobab, and Desert Date oils, along with Aloe and Prickly Pear extracts to hydrate and soothe the skin. Wild Being also features a complex of desert botanical extracts including Agave, Dune Primrose, Yucca, Cholla Cactus, and Ocotillo. Together, these beautiful oils and extracts provide strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hydrating benefits. If that weren't enough, the first run of Wild Being will be a Limited Edition: Lightning Struck version — it includes wildcrafted oil pressed from the wood of a 650 year old Juniper tree that was struck by lightning in the Arizona desert. This oil is truly connected with the living environment of the desert.

For every full-sized bottle of Wild Being sold, Chiasm Skin will donate (at least!) $1 to the Southwest Environmental Center. You can read more about them here: https://www.wildmesquite.org/

Donations and Pre-Orders

Fundly donors have the option to pre-order Chiasm Skin products. Prices are included in the donor level list to the right, and represent about a 20% discount from the MSRP for each item. Items pre-ordered are expected to ship in early/mid December, in time for the holiday season. You will receive an email update when your item ships. All donations will go towards the cost of ingredients and other necessities associated with producing the first run of Chiasm Skin products.

Chiasm Skin is a cruelty-free, vegan brand that uses organic and wildcrafted ingredients as much as possible.

Note: If you are pre-ordering an item, please make sure you do not donate anonymously!

If you have any questions about the ingredients or formulations, please feel welcome to contact us here, via our website at www.chiasmskin.com, via IG @ChiasmSkin, on Facebook, or by emailing bex@chiasmskin.com.

Update #1

Hi friends! So excited to see that we've already reached over 10% of our ultimate goal within the first 36 hours or so of the campaign. We truly appreciate your generosity and support, and are working hard on finalizing these beautiful products and getting them ready to be shipped out next month.

If you haven't seen it already, here's a photo of our "Complete Set," which includes all three of our oils and a gorgeous clear rock quartz crystal gua sha. Our crystal gua sha feels wonderful, cool and smooth on the skin. This beauty facilitates the absorption of our lovely oils while easing all that extra tension we've all been carrying in our jaws, foreheads, and necks these past few months. The gua sha is available to pre-order with Wild Being for $45, or with the complete set shown here for $80. Enjoy!
