Update #4

Hello everyone! Hope you are taking care of yourself and loved ones amid this enraging week of white supremacist violence and coup attempt. Thanks again for your patience as we worked with Fundly to resolve the issue. The site is up and running again! Please continue to spread the word and make a donation if you can (and tried to earlier this week and were unable to). Sending love, safety, and protection to all! <3

More Info

We are a group of people who love and support CeCe. She brought us together to develop and launch this campaign. CeCe has been part of the development of this fundraiser along the way.

Please join us in supporting CeCe McDonald, our beloved, respected, and brilliant artist, activist, and community member based in Minneapolis. CeCe is a formerly incarcerated prison abolitionist whose vision for collective liberation combines the creation of multimedia educational tools with intergenerational organizing practices, centering the welfare of both Black transgender and non-binary youth and of Black transgender women and adult femmes.

CeCe recently secured housing for herself and her family under her own name for the first time since surviving incarceration for defending herself during a violent hate crime by white supremacists a decade ago. We love CeCe and want to ensure she has the support to maintain her housing stability while growing her work in the world.

As is true for so many Black transgender people, 2020 has been an incredibly difficult year for CeCe.  We’re reaching out to community to come together to support CeCe so she can not just maintain this stable housing but also meet all of her basic survival needs (food, rent, utilities, medical care, and transportation) while also taking care of some of the financial burdens of the past few months (legal fees, loss of a working car, tuition fees to transfer to another university which would increase her access to more employment opportunities). She and her partner are also in need of a working car to be able to get to work, appointments, etc more easily and without expensive Lyft rides everywhere (since bus lines are limited to many parts of the city). Your donation by end of the year will help make that possible.

We’re currently seeking one-time donations by December 31st totaling $15,000 to ensure CeCe and her family have what they need to make it through the end of 2020.

If it’s better for you to spread out your donation over time, please consider becoming part of CeCe’s monthly fundraising circle. Our goal for 2021 is to reach $135,000 in monthly and/or one-time donations.

We will meet our goal if:

  • 2500 people pledge $5/month, or

  • 835 people pledge $15/month, or

  • 500 people pledge $25/month, or

  • 250 people pledge $50/month

So much is possible, together! Please donate what you can, and spread the word about this campaign with your networks so that CeCe can not only survive but thrive. June 2021 marks 10 years since CeCe was brutally attacked and then punished by the state for surviving. Let’s be sure the next decade is one in which she is surrounded with all the love, care and resources she needs to continue healing and living in her highest purpose.

With love and gratitude,

CeCe's support team

We've contacted them again and hope they can resolve as soon as possible. We'll update here once the site is accepting donations again. Thanks for your patience!

*$15,000 was our end of year goal. We hope to raise a total of $150,000 (in one-time contributions & monthly sustainers) by June 2021.
