IIM Bangalore conducted the CAT 2022 exam on the 27th of November 2022 in 3 slots. This national-level exam was held in over 150 cities in India. The candidates can expect the result during the first to the second week of January according to the trend seen in the past 6 years. The official website for CAT, i.e. IIM CAT is yet to release the notification regarding the CAT result 2022.

After the candidate gets their CAT 2022 result, their CAT score will be valid till the 31st of December 2023. The candidates can check their CAT exam result on their smartphones as well as their desktops/ laptops. In order to be accepted to the top B-schools in India, a candidate needs to pass a certain cut-off score, which is different for different colleges. The CAT cut offs will be announced after 2-3 days following the result announcement.

CAT Exam Result:

The CAT exam will be released probably at the beginning of January. The candidates will be getting their CAT 2022 result notification individually via SMS. The candidates can check their results on the official website of CAT.  The candidates will be able to download their results till December 2023.

How To Download CAT Result 2022:

The CAT exam result will be available online to the candidates and to download the CAT scorecard, the candidates will have to keep important details like CAT login id and password handy. A candidate must keep both hard copies as well as soft copies with them as it is advisable. The candidates can check and download their results through the following steps:

  • Go to the official website for CAT i.e. IIMCAT.
  • Click on the ‘CAT 2022 scorecard download’ tab.
  • Enter your CAT ID as well as your password.
  • Enter on the ‘scorecard’.
  • Download your CAT scorecard.

You can find information like your user ID, registration number, name, gender, date of birth and CAT percentile etc., on your CAT scorecard. The CAT score is different from the CAT percentile. While both are important, the CAT score is the total marks obtained by a candidate, the CAT percentile is the total number of candidates qualifying for the exam

How To Calculate the CAT Percentile:

In the CAT exam, for the MCQ-based questions, 3 marks are awarded for every correct answer while one mark is deducted for every wrong answer. For Non-MCQ-based questions, there is no negative marking for the wrong answers.

Here is how you can calculate your CAT percentile:

  • Each candidate is given marks on the basis of the number of correct and incorrect answers attempted. The overall score is then achieved by totalling the scores section-wise.
  • Then the overall and section-wise scores are normalized to get a scaled CAT score
  • Then the scaled CAT score is converted into the percentiles reported on the CAT scorecard.

The normalization process for the CAT exam is based on the GATE scoring process.

Steps After The CAT 2022 Result:

After a candidate has passed the cut-off for their IIM or other B-schools of preference, they will be invited by the institute for further rounds. The candidate will need to apply for an online form for admission to the institutes that they have selected during the registration for the CAT exam.

There are three stages in the whole process of admission to an MBA institution after the CAT exam.

1. Screening based on CAT score and academic background:

In this stage, the candidates are selected based on their performance in the CAT exam. This is the stage that determines whether or not a candidate is eligible for admission to an institute. Along with the CAT score, the institute also judges a candidate based on their academic background. A certain cut-off is set by each institution that a candidate must pass to go through the further rounds of admission.

2. Written Ability test, Group discussion and Personal Interview:

This is the most crucial stage for admission to an MBA institute.

First comes the Written Ability Test, where a candidate is judged based on their critical and logical knowledge. The exam is about 20 minutes long and it is a pen and paper-based test. This round is essentially an essay writing round where the preferable word count is 300 words.

Second is the Group Discussion. While the IIMs have removed this round from the process of admission, it remains a crucial round in the admission process for other colleges. Through this round, the candidate is evaluated based on their overall general knowledge, critical thinking, teamwork skills, confidence and communication skill.

The third round is the personal interview. In this round, the interviewers get to judge candidates on an individual level. The evaluation is done based on parameters like a candidate’s confidence, communication skills and wit. This helps the interviewer understand whether the candidate is a right fit for the institute.

The Final Selection:

The final selection is done based on a candidate’s CAT score, academic background, and performance in the WAT, GD and PI.
