Caressa now has pneumonia and her stay at Phoenix Childrens Hospital has been extended
Tues Feb 5th, little 2year old Caressa started her day like any other day with the exception of continuing a fever she'd had for the previous 4days. She had yogurt and her favorite berries for breakfast. She watched her favorite shows and was her usual playful self. As the day progressed, she seemed exhausted. She refused to eat or drink and she began refusing her fever medicine which made her mother decide to take her to Phoenix children's hospital that evening. She sat in the emergency waiting room for over 2hours before finally being seen for triage and was given Tylenol suppositories then taken to a room to wait for a doctor. Since it was her fifth day with a fever the doctor wanted to run lab work. She had a catheter placed to collect urine but her urine sample came back normal. Next blood was drawn and came back with low levels in her hemoglobin and platelets, her white blood cell count was high with abnormalities. Further testing was needed to diagnose the abnormalities and plan for treatment. An Xray was done and showed pneumonia in her lungs and blood testing came back with an official diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. An immediate decision to do a spinal tap, a bone marrow aspiration and place a port into her chest was made. Results from her spinal tap showed the leukemia, thankfully, had not reached her brain. We are currently still waiting for the results of the bone marrow aspiration and the port is used to administer antibiotics for the pneumonia, fluids for dehydration, chemotherapy and the necessary daily blood draws needed to monitor blood cell levels without needing to repetitively replace an IV being that her chemotherapy treatments will be weekly for the next 3yrs. We are asking for prayers, loving thoughts and donations to help cover the cost of these unexpected, necessary medical bills and anything Caressa may need in the next 3yrs during her chemotherapy treatments. Anything helps and is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for all your love and support.
