Donations go toward the support of preschool opportunities for the young children of rural Mumena Village, Zambia. Programs include elementary school preparation and environmental literacy.
The Buwame Child Development Foundation implements early child development programs in the village I served during my Peace Corps service from 2014-2016. It is my privilege to continue to work with my community and ensure the youth have a fighting chance toward a bright future.
The name Buwame means good or nice in the Kaonde language. Buwame is also the name of the son of my host parents. Buwame was six months old when I moved to the village. A year and a half later he suddenly became ill and passed away at the age of two years old from an unknown cause. His father - a Registered Nurse and runs the village clinic - decided to create a charitable organization in his son's memory.
Buwame and his little brother Bibusa.
Buwame Child Development Foundation - an official nonprofit of Zambia - promotes programs that helps give the youth of the village a head start in math, geography, and reading, as well as introducing environmental literacy and proper hygiene.
Your donations will go directly to the purchase of books and learning materials, maintenance and enhancement of the preschool building, and a fund to support teaching staff.
Thank you for your interest in the Buwame Child Development Foundation. Your donation will help many little lives go in a positive direction.
All the best,
