Buwame Child Development Foundation

Buwame Child Development Foundation

From Virginia Patsun

I am raising money for a nonprofit in a Zambian village where I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer. The Foundation provides teaching materials and educational support, and nutrition programs for preschoolers.

I served in the Peace Corps from 2014-2016 in Zambia which is a country in Sub-Saharan Africa. I lived in a small remote village in the Northwestern corner of the country with people of the Kaonde Tribe.

I became very close to many of the people in the community, particularly my host family. I had a little host brother named Buwame. He was six months old when I arrived to the village. He and I became very close over the next year and a half. Unfortunately he passed away suddenly from an unknown illness.

His father who is a Registered Nurse decided to create a nonprofit in his son's memory called the Buwame Child Development Foundation. It is an officially recognized NGO in Republic of Zambia. It promotes early childhood development programs for the youth who live in the village. I am an active member of the Foundation and am taking the initiative to seek funding for its projects. Eventually we would like to make the Foundation a 501C3 organization.

Thank you for your interest and support.
