Update #7

High school students at Conover School are doing their part and helping with the overall awards for the Conover School 5K Run & Roll that will take place on Saturday, June 16! All proceeds form our race go toward updating our adaptive playground! Even if you are't a runner, or aren't able to be with us for our 5K race, we would still love for you to partner with us in helping us build this "Field of Dreams" for our students. So many friends have already donated and we are so thankful! We love our school, our amazing kids and each one of you!

More Info

Help us finish our Conover School Adaptive, Special Needs Playground! It is next to impossible for a wheelchair to roll through mulch. It is flat out impossible for some of our students to swing in a traditional swing. Conover School is a separate, public, special needs school that serves Hickory City, Newton-Conover City and Catawba County North Carolina schools. EVERY child should be able to play on their school’s playgound, no matter what their physical, emotional, sensory or tactile needs. The Conover School 5K Run & Roll is our annual community event to help raise funds to complete this project. All proceeds go directly to the playground! Thanks to our runners and generous sponsors, every year we have been able to complete another piece of our playground puzzle, but it's been a long road. This year, we would like to FINISH it! Even if you aren’t able to run with us in the 5K, we would be honored to have you partner with us by way of donation. We thank you for your support! Our kids thank you too!

Update #7

Meet Nicks! Nicks loves to be on playgrounds but they are not the safest place for him. He has Down's Syndrome and that makes him unstable which is not a good combination with the uneven surfaces of a typical playground. But when he plays on the Conover School special playground he is safe. He loves to run around and pretend to fall down and the soft surfaces won't hurt him when this happens. He also gets to play with his friends at school who require special playgrounds like he does. We love that our playground is getting upgraded more and more each year thanks to all who come out to our 5K Run and Roll. Your donation will help us complete the last area that needs to be resurfaced!

Update #6

Meet Megan! Megan is a high school student at Conover School who LOVES to be outside and she LOVES to swing. The wheelchair swing on the school playground is one of her favorite places! However, the playground areas at the school were filled with mulch, making it very difficult to maneuver Megan's wheelchair to the swing. Conover School PTO has been raising money to replace the mulch with a rubberized surfacing that makes the playground equipment more accessible for all students. There is one last area on the playground that needs the rubberized surfacing. Help us reach the goal of making our playground fully accessible to all of our students!

Update #3

Meet Megan! Megan has attended Conover school for 9 years. She needs the support of her wheel chair all of the time, which is why a wheel chair friendly surface is so important at our school. Morgan is able to easily get to our special wheel chair swing where she loves the back and forth motion. Fortunately MOST of the areas of our playground are wheel chair friendly...but there is still more that needs to be completed...

Update #2

Many of our students can't navigate an uneven surface. It is almost impossible for a wheelchair to move through a mulched area! After 5 years of 5K fundraising, we still have one more area to surface so that our playground will be accessible for ALL of our students!
