My nephew has unexpectedly moved in with me. We don't have an extra room for him. He has always been on a couch & I want to give him more. I am trying to raise money to build him his own room in the basement.
My nephew Cameron and his younger brother Caiden have not had the easiest of lives. Their father is not present at all and their mother unfortunately has not been able to take care of them for the past 8 years. They have been living with my parents, Cameron has been sleeping full time in the living room on one of the couches and Caiden has been sharing a bed with his grandmother. It's been a struggle for all involved and myself and my other sister have helped anyway we can and luckily these boys have still turned out to be loving, caring boys with good grades and neither of them have ever been in trouble. I cannot imagine not ever having a space for myself, but it was this option or foster care and we couldn't let that happen to these amazing boys. Cameron is now 16 years old. He is currently in the A+ program at school, has AP classes, and he wants to be a police officer when he graduates high school. He has such a great heart and he is so smart. I was fortunate enough to lease a car for him under my name because he is holding down a job and he is truly an amazing kid, and now we have decided the best choice for all involved would be for him to move into my house with my family. I cannot be more thrilled that my parents have finally accepted this is the best thing for him. And now his brother Caiden can transfer to the living room and stop sleeping with his grandmother in the bed.
The only thing now is that he still doesn't have his own space. Right now, he is staying in our guest bedroom. He now has a bed and a closet that he can use, which he has never had prior, but none of it is his own. We have many people who come in from out of town with their families that stay with us for days at a time, so there might be days where it would be best for him to stay on the couch and have the visiting family stay in the guest room instead. Him being the truly amazing kid he is, he acts fine with this, he is just happy to have a bed t sleep in, but I want him to have his own space. A space where he can decorate on his own, have his own stuff up on the wall, in the closet, like most other kids do. He deserves at least that. Honestly he deserves the world, but this is what we are trying to achieve at the moment. The only place I would be able to give this to him would be the unfinished basement.
That is why I have decided to reach out to you fine people and to see if I could get some help in trying to finish some of the basement for my nephew. I don't have to do all of it, really just enough for him to feel comfortable. So a bedroom for him, and just an open space from his room to the stairs is all I am looking for. This is for him currently, but once he moves out and starts his own adventure I plan on doing the exact same thing for his younger brother. So this room will be used for his brother as well.
This might not seem like much to some, but this would be life changing for two very special boys who have never been handed anything in life. They deserve this more than anyone I know. I just want to help them find a little happiness in life and have them finally get a space they can call their own. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
