Hello Friends and Family! On December 6th, 2017 I will be flying to Thessaloniki, Greece to work with the Norwegian NGO Drapen I Havet (A Drop In the Ocean). This incredible organization works with the Greek refugee camps that are housing people who have escaped from war torn regions of the Middle East. The people in the Nea Kavala camps have been run out of their homes by terrorist groups like ISIS and the Taliban, travelled hundreds of miles on foot and by boat enduring the elements, hunger, and incredible hardship. Some have lost or been separated from their families. Now that they have reached the camp they are waiting to be welcomed to a country that will grant them asylum. Many have been living in the camp for well over a year.

The primary functions for the volunteers are to distribute food, clothing and supplies to the residents of the camps. We also teach classes and host activities for the residents, many of whom are children. The goal is to bring some hope and comfort to these people who have been through hell and face an uncertain future in a place they have never known.

I will be spending just over two weeks volunteering. I am planning to pay for my own airfare, but I would like to raise some funds for housing and transportation (a rental car is required as housing is not available near the camp). The car and a single room for myself will cost about $1,000. If I can raise $2,000 there is a large house for rent that would be able to house myself and at least 7 more volunteers. Any additional money I raise will be donated to A Drop In the Ocean.

Please check out the website and Facebook pages for more information on the organization. I think that you will be as impressed as I am. I will also be writing about my experience while I'm there, posting pictures and videos so you can see where your donations are going. Thank you all for your help!
