I'm raising money for a cause I care about, but I need your help to reach my goal! Please become a supporter to follow my progress and share with your friends.
Over the past thirty years, D.C.has experienced an economic boom, with young people across the country coming to the city for work. Yet it remains one of the most unequal cities in the country: 16.2% of D.C. residents live in poverty, and homelessness is twicethe national average. We all know the causes: declining wages, rising housing prices, and limited social services. The city provides some help, but as one resident described, "There is only but so many services, and they can only get to so many people.” Consequently, private social service agencies have become indispensable in the fight against poverty and homelessness. Yet these organizations rely on donations and volunteering from D.C.'s younger residents, who themselves are struggling to save time and money for themselves.
Bridge the Gap encourages people to give back what they would spend on a night out. Featuring an OPEN BAR and LIVE PERFORMANCES, Bridge the Gap will raise money for Central Union Mission, one of D.C.'s oldest private social service agencies. Donations will be used to help operate an emergency shelter program; a rehabilitation program for men with life-controlling issues; a food, clothing and furniture distribution center; a camp for underprivileged children; programs for isolated seniors; computer and job training; and transitional and low-cost housing.
Your donations will also have FOUR TIMES THE IMPACT! For every dollar you spend, Central Union Kitchen will receive $4! Three anonymous donors will generously MATCH your donations dollar for dollar. That means a $100 donation which would usually help 58 people, will now help 232 people!
Can’t donate? Please share. Even a quick share on Facebook can help.
The average share raises $97.
