Wow!

I want to give a huge thank you to everyone that has began to support me.

In just the span of this weekend, we have raised $145 and this is empowering because I now can begin to pay for one set of audition fees.

Please continue to share the word. I am forever thankful for all that has come and all that will come.

Positive Vibes!

More Info

Hello,

My name is Brandon Ahmauri McClendon. I am an emerging community arts activist that uses the power of dance and storytelling to evoke conversations around advocacy that focuses on the intersections between masculinity, spirituality, and politics.

I am a graduate of Earlham College in Richmond Indiana with a self-designed B.A. in Arts, Activism, and Community Empowerment.

Throughout the past few years, I have been actively training in various dance styles ranging from genres such as Afro-Cuban Modern and Dancehall to more traditional genres like Ballet and Contemporary. I have actively studied these styles all over the U.S. at dance institutions such as:

*Take The Lead Dance Studio located in Philadelphia, PA.

*Alonzo King Lines Ballet located in San Francisco, CA.

*Pontecorvo Ballet Studios located in Springboro, Ohio

*Pine Forest School Of The Arts located in Jacksonville, Florida

More importantly, my training has also had a deep focus on academic dance research focusing on Dance Anthropology and Dance Movement/Therapy.

My senior thesis “The Deconstruction and Reconstruction of Masculinity Through Time and Space: The Hidden Power Of Dance” was a dance ethnography based on my current creative dance saga project "Forbidden ButterFlies".

Once I graduated from Earlham, I received a grant to engage in an academic dance research project that I created where I reflected on my dance experience and how there is a push for more holistic dance conversations. I did this by taking dance history classes at UC Berkeley, continuing my work-study partnership with Alonzo King Lines Ballet, and looking at the different ways that other dancers discussed dance.

With all of this insight from my training, research, and conversations with other dancers, I have reached a point in my artistic development where I am ready to begin auditioning for different dance companies/organizations and am prepared to start creating community-based arts projects while continuing my training in dance.

I have compiled a list of auditions and institutions I am planning to visit this year and some of the main cities I would be visiting are:

Chicago, Illinois

New York City

Dallas, Texas

Washington, D.C.

Pasadena, California

Boston, Massachusetts

San Francisco, California

Las Vegas, Nevada

Santa Clara, California

Boulder, Colorado

San Diego, California

Each city has either an audition, an institution I am visiting to interview about teaching artist positions, or both.

Everyone knows that I’m a big dreamer and I have a multitude of goals I am trying to reach in life, but I wouldn’t be who I am without the specific communities all across the U.S. that helped shape me into the radical individual I am today.

Friends, Family, Professors, Community Members, Mentors,

I am asking today that if you are willing and able to, please take some time to donate any amount you can feasibly give to help me continue my dance exploration and training.

I am a firm believer that my gift to this world is my ability to build empathy and a sense of social responsibility through dance as a way to intentionally ignite a will-power in communities to create sustainable solutions for the social ills that are plaguing our mind, body and soul.

With the current state of our country and the problems that are affecting us both locally and globally, there is an urgency to think critically about ways that we can holistically solve these problems. Because we have no more time to lose.

The donations will help go towards travel, lodging, food, training and audition/convention fees.
