Bookselling Without Borders is bringing you the world through books.

We invite you to be part of our growing community.

Booksellers provide an essential link between authors and American readers. The more opportunities they have to engage meaningfully with international authors, agents, and publishers the greater the benefits to readers.

Since 2016, Bookselling Without Borders (BWB) has been providing American booksellers with fellowships to attend international book fairs. At these fairs, booksellers take part in presentations, panel discussions, and seminars exploring current trends in international writing; they visit local bookstores to meet managers and booksellers; they tour local literary arts organizations; they meet publishers, editors, authors, agents, and trade association representatives from around the world. And, importantly, they spend time exchanging ideas with each other. When they return from these trips they are more effective advocates for international voices.

Becoming familiar with multiple and diverse cultural perspectives is more important now than ever. Booksellers are a vital link.

To continue with this valuable initiative, become a part of the Bookselling Without Borders community by supporting the project. By doing so you will be helping to put more diverse and international books into the hands of readers.

There are so many opportunities for booksellers to engage with the international book scene and so many more ways that they can enrich your experience as a reader.

In 2019, BWB will award a total of 16 fellowships, sending booksellers to fairs in 5 countries on 4 continents. We are also establishing a residency program that will allow U.S. booksellers to spend up to two weeks overseas getting hands-on experience at local bookstores and taking a deep dive into the regional book industry. BWB alumni are helping us develop a database of contacts and resources that can be shared with all booksellers, encouraging the entire bookselling community to become more effective advocates for international and diverse voices.

The community behind BWB includes bookstores, publishers, editors, writers, designers, agents, illustrators, and many other important members of the book publishing world.

BWB promotes bibliodiversity, cultural diversity, and access to new perspectives. Bookselling Without Borders is having a positive impact on the culture of reading in this country by encouraging booksellers to introduce new and exciting international voices to American readers. You can be a part of the exciting BWB community by supporting this campaign or sharing this page with friends, family, and colleagues.
