This scholarship is named after Bobby R. Butts, who always embodied the idea of acceptance and inclusion during his years as a teacher and public servant.
No matter where he would go, Bobby would always be greeted by someone he taught or met throughout his life. They always had a story to share and he would remember their experiences and never forgot a person's face.
The number of people Bobby impacted in his life is beyond measure but it is important to know that, even at 90 years old, he reached a young boy who most people thought was unreachable. This ability will be his legacy.
It did not matter where a person came from or what their situation was, he saw potential and made a person feel like they could do anything.
Bobby said it best "Be an in spite of instead of a because of".
This scholarship embodies everything Bobby believed in and everything that he was.
Two scholarships will be awarded each year. One to a deserving student at West Davidson High School where he taught for over 30 years and a second to a deserving student attending another Davidson County School in honor of Bobby's continued service to the county he loved.
