I am raising money for Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. As a Board of Director for NAMI Central Texas, I would like to use these funds to support culturally responsive programs & initiatives in the organization.
I am on the Board of NAMI Central Texas and I am raising money for Minority Mental Health Awareness Month (July). Part of my goal as a Board of Director is to use NAMI Central Texas’s large platform to bring greater awareness to Black mental health issues. My hope is that one day Black mental health and wellness will not be reserved for specific months (February and July), community crisis (black death) or simply viewed as a Black issue for Black people to solve alone. Black mental health and wellness should be discussed and elevated in everyday conversations. More importantly, Black mental health and wellness should be normalized. Black people should be able to openly explore their mental health, without guilt, shame or fear of punishment. Currently, I am working with NAMI Central Texas to create culturally responsive programs and generate more authentic conversations and actions to support mental health and wellness in Black communities in our region. Therefore, I would like to ask if you would be willing to make a donation to support NAMI Central Texas programs to help bring awareness to Black mental health issues. In addition, I ask that you help me hold NAMI Central Texas accountable for creating more inclusive, culturally responsive and equitable programming! Lastly, I would like to invite you to NAMI Central Texas’s upcoming event on July 22: Black Mental Health Matters: Effects of Community Trauma on Mental Health
