Bisso Beats Cancer

Bisso Beats Cancer

From Liz Pilarski

We are raising money for Sara to use for all of the costs that come along with a cancer diagnosis. We want Sara to be able to focus on beating cancer, and not worry about medical costs.

Update #2

Hi All! WOW - your initial fundraising has been inspiring. Thank you for stepping up for Sara in her time of need. She's already powered through her first round of chemo!! I thought I would share an update from Patty Wall and Sara's Caring Bridge website:

Kathleen Daniels and I joined Sara for her first chemo session today at Frauenshuh at Methodist. What a terrific facility with a caring, wonderful staff. We could tell Sara was fearful of what was to come, however, pulled through the seven hour day like the strong, amazing woman she is. We watched a video featuring nurse Maggie while she talked about the realities and side effects of chemotherapy. Big reality check. Thanks Maggie. Nurse Maggie provided some fodder for humor for the day. In came the amazing team to care for Sara. She was so strong while the IV went into her port. Anti-nausea meds then bag one. Bag two. Bag three which was the questionable therapy where a reaction was strongly possible. Super tough fitness instructor plowed through. Bag four. Neulasta patch in the arm with nice needle poke.
Amongst it all, Sara proved to be a complete badass with smiles, laughter and a few tears.

So proud of her. She did great. This woman who has led us through many tough workouts was an amazing model of strength today. Will update with how the next few days plays out. All in all, day one did not phase our girl.

More Info

At the end of September 2022, Sara was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Between then and now, her days have been filled with MRI’s, biopsies, organ and bone scans, meetings with surgeons and nurse navigators, appointments with oncologists, additional biopsies, and painful conversations telling her daughter, Mia, about what lies ahead.

We’ve seen Sara in pain, anguish, stress, fear, and tears - all this BEFORE she begins the journey of treatment, which begins in October. Sara will have 4 months of chemo, followed by surgery to remove both breasts, followed by another 8 months of chemo, with the possible addition of radiation.

Sara is an unbelievably strong willed force to be reckoned with; so we're CERTAIN she’ll kick cancer’s ass.

We know there is a wonderful community who loves Sara and wants to support her every step of this journey.   Even with insurance, most patients spend 40-80K for treatment.  Any donations are appreciated, along with good thoughts, positive energy, and prayers!

Updates will be posted here and on Sara's CaringBridge site: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/sarabisso
