While there are many organizations that aid and support homeless people, our mission is to rescue at-risk homeless families & veterans that are experiencing temporary financial woes and are at risk of becoming homeless.
Who We Are:
Brothers From Another (BFA, hereinafter) is a nonprofit organization (former/current sport icons) who have taken personal responsibility to continuously make a positive impact in the lives of our youth through basketball, by setting positive examples at all times and providing dedicated and accountable role models who are always accessible to serve our communities.
Bigger Than Basketball:
Although our organization has been primarily focused on reaching the youth through sports over the years, we have become mentors, parental figures and support systems for many of the young men and later to their families that are connected to our programs. On a daily, we’ve witnessed families struggle with house hold bills but more frequently with rent/mortgages to keep a roof over their heads. With rental rates and inflation at an all time high, coupled with stagnated salary increases, many families find themselves in a crises if they happen to fall behind on their monthly housing obligation. Some eventually find themselves victim to the snowball effect of pay-day loans to try and catch up. Unfortunately, this usually ends up in disaster, forcing families to have to live in hotels and low rated motels after being evicted. BFA has housed many of their players and families because they had no where else to go besides the streets. This is when the mission became bigger than basketball.
Hard times are inevitable for most working Americans. The harsh truth is that over 40% of working Americans are only one paycheck away from becoming homeless. Most organization that offer any type of financial assistance to families and veterans that are standing at the door of homelessness only offer up to $500 of financial relief, which in most cases is not effective and leaves families in helpless situations. Although these families are grateful for the assistance that is given, many times it’s simply not enough. This is why most families are forced out of their homes with no where to run.
How we will help:
Please join hands with us and our active affiliates; (MCVET (Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training), Lifestyles of Maryland, MHM (Millennial Holiness Movement) and Outreach Ministry of Bethel Deliverance Outreach Ministries (BDOM), as we unite and go to work. Our first priority is to help prevent evictions of families and veterans in various communities that we currently serve.
All proceeds for this great cause will go directly to work for these families and veterans that are in urgent need of financial assistance to prevent homelessness.
