Last year, the Beacon Unpaid Internship Fund raised $400 for Rebecca Szkutak, a Beacon staffer who interned at Interview Magazine in New York.
For better or worse, a large share of journalism outlets are based in New York and other cities that devour checking accounts. So with the semester winding down, we are re-upping the Beacon Unpaid Internship Fund to benefit a staffer with an unpaid internship this summer.
We’ve all moved on from sparring with student affairs flacks and grueling Wednesday night publishing scrambles. Contributing to this stipend is a great way to stay connected with a paper (a family, really) that meant so much to us in our Emerson years.
Please give what you can, and help spread the word!
We’ll stick with last year’s process: interested staffers will submit a graf or two describing their upcoming internship, and we’ll blind vote (names removed) based on those descriptions. The top vote getter will win that sweet scrilla.
Thanks to Maria Chutchian and Terri Ciccone for help setting this up. If you have any questions, please let me know.
