Thanks to our first Rotary Global Grant Water & Health Project clean water now flows every day from mountain springs, through 2 miles of pipes, into a network of faucets throughout the village of Lhuhwahwa Uganda to hundreds of families.
Their evening dinner tables are now laden with healthy greens, squash, beans and meat they’ve grown on their own farms.
This is the first year the family’s daily hard work is for more than just survival. With the addition of a reliable source of clean water and sanitation facilities, family farms can produce enough to also sell at market.
Among the 1,620 villagers of Lhuwhahwa, children spend less time fetching water and more time in school built with bricks from the Rotary water project.
EcoSan latrines keep the family’s land and water clean and disease free (no more cholera outbreaks).
Their family farm’s crops, chicken, pig and fish production are starting to earn income this year at market.
Their sons & daughters can now dream of becoming nurses, doctors, engineers and teachers to continue building their community healthier and stronger.
Guided by knowledge from the Rotary trainings, the family is less beaten down by disease and more empowered to sustain a better life for themselves.
The Rotary Clubs of Santa Cruz Sunrise and Kasese Rotary worked together to lift the entire community of Lhuhwahwa from poverty into health and sustainable prosperity through our Clean Water & Health Global Grant project.
On the heals of the first successful project, we now embark on the second phase to:
