Our Mission

Our youth’s authentic lens is underrepresented in the media. To understand their perspective and struggles, this platform and these tools will build the necessary skills they need to bring their vision to life.

We are a team of diverse filmmakers who strive to pass along our shared knowledge, skills, and resources to the next generation of young creatives. We set out to accomplish this mission by providing lessons in practical video production to underrepresented youth.

We believe the education they’ll receive and the teamwork involved in video production can be a transformative experience. With reliable guidance, our at-risk youth can create media that represents their shared experiences while preparing them for future success.

What are we fundraising for?

1. Equipment, snacks, and space for our monthly workshops and Spring and Fall programs that consist of Film 101 classes with a drug-free message for 6th-12th graders.

2. These funds allow us to continue to help the youth make influential public service announcements and/or short films by teaching them all aspects of the film-making process (research, development, pre-production, production, post-production.) They get to show off what they made during our Spring and Fall events.

3. To cash match our generous grant from the City of Austin.

What we’re promoting

  • Healthy Mindset
  • Youth resilience
  • Challenge false beliefs
  • Sustainable behavioral change
  • Drug education | awareness
  • A life full of hobbies and aspirations
  • The tools to avoid dangerous habits
  • STEAM education

Update #9

Our youth had a blast at the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex over the Summer!

They came in one by one curious and excited to check out the new PSA the Austin Metro Drug-Free Media Project made entitled "Mother's Secret" - centered around a drug called Fentanyl.

With these donations and our wonderful sponsors, our youth were able to make an informative PSA about Fentanyl, showcase what they made at the community-driven Family Movie Night, and safely talk about their experiences with drugs and alcohol.

Our youth also got a chance to review what they learned about the filmmaking process to their peers as the event was free and open to the public.

With your continued support, we can do more. Visit www.drugfreemediaproject.com for updates and more information!
