Wheelchair Transport Van Needed

Wheelchair Transport Van Needed

From Gregory Langford

Unable to stand or walk, I am asking for help to fund a transport vehicle to be used to drive me and my electric wheelchair to and from doctor appointments, as well as the grocery store and other necessary outings.

Two days left on my current Fundly campaign. To all who have been kind enough to donate and/or post to your Facebook page, a big Thank You!

More Info

My name is Greg. I am 56 years old and live in the city of Palm Springs, CA. For those who don't know me personally, I suffer from a degenerative muscle disease called polymyositis. This is a rare, progressive auto-immune condition that began affecting the strength in my legs and arms approximately 10 years ago. After receiving two separate muscle biopsies, a diagnosis of polymyositis was confirmed in 2010.

This rare condition is similar to MS as it affects the body. It started progressing slowly at first and I began noticing that I was having trouble balancing when I walked. I noticed that I was falling more and more frequently and after discussing my situation with my doctor I was told that with this particular disease, it may not be long before I eventually lost the use of my arms and legs completely. I was working as a security guard when I lost the ability to walk up stairs and could no longer stand from a seated position. Unable to work, I began the painful 3 year process of filing for SS Disability. In 2017 I fell and broke my kneecap which required extensive surgery. Then, approximately two years later in the spring of 2019 I was knocked down by a gust of wind as I was leaving the dentist office breaking my pelvis and left leg. I then spent three months in a rehabilitation hospital. It was at this point that I realized it was no longer safe for me to walk on my own and I began using a powered wheelchair full time. Over the next few months I slowly lost the ability to stand or walk on my own and now require a wheelchair in order to move around.

Being an active person all of my life, this was a major adjustment both mentally and physically. Just this past year I lost the ability to drive and began relying on a family member to lift me in and out of the passenger seat of my Subaru Outback anytime I need to go anywhere. I now require a motorized lift chair for mobility anywhere outside of my home.

As anyone can imagine, asking for financial help is not an easy thing for me to do. I currently rely solely on Social Security Disability for my income which barely covers my normal living expenses. This funding website is the only way I've found to help secure a vehicle that will transport me and my wheelchair to and from doctor appointments. My plan is to sell my 2014 Subaru which is in excellent condition with low milage and combine that with money raised here to purchase a transport conversion van for wheelchairs, which has now become a necessity.

If you'd like to help apart from donating, there is a way to share my story on your Facebook page just beneath the donate button. They tell me that goals are reached much more easily when many people share via Facebook. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read my profile page. Each and every donation is very much appreciated.
