Art Gallery/Community Space: UT Gallery & Gifts

From Livia Ching

We are raising funds for UT Art Gallery (UTG) to have a space of its own in the Artist District of Downtown Vallejo. Funding will go towards lease, staffing, marketing and operations. UTG was founded by Livia in 2010.

More Info

UT Gallery (UTG) has been a creative project in my life since 2010. It began as a studio project that gained momentum in 2011 and 2013 going from Vallejo Open Studios to the 25th Street Collective in Oakland. We won the Vallejo Open Studios Cover Art Contest in 2011 and shortly after I was featured in the San Francisco Business Times as part of the whimsical curators of the 25th Street Collective.

Guest and feature curators have training from the California College of Arts & Crafts (now CCA). UTG has focused on the aesthetics of three genres: 1980s pop culture, Asian American modern works and comic book art and fantasy. We have also specialized and will continue to specialize in MidCentury and vintage clothing, furniture and accessories.

Through many learning lessons, show openings, private showings and online art sales, the dream of UTG flourished in its mobile and studio format with the support of the Vallejo Arts Community and friends and family in the last nine years off that simple vision. Now, the dream takes root in its biggest endeavor yet. We have found a 1,500 sq. ft. space in the Art Deco Arts District of Downtown Vallejo to offer safe art space for all ages on weekends and during artwalks, help beautify one of the most underrated and diverse cities in the SF Bay Area and build upon the community which supports and loves what we do.

The goal of $30,000 will go towards six months of lease for the new space, operations, inventory, supplies, commissions to artists, marketing and staff. In addition, the mobile tradition stays alive with plans to acquire a mobile gallery and boutique to take UTG on the road and spread our brand wider and further than California.

Please make sure you click through the photos above to see the energy and color we've provided to local collectors and the community for almost a decade.

A portion of the funding will also go towards setting up a non-profit in honor of my Grandmother, Jewel Wu (Fu Shaw Huang), and my Mother, Cathy B.J. Ching, who have both passed (Jewel in 2019 and Cathy in 2006) but are not forgotten and still very much loved and remembered. This non-profit will focus on providing organizations with gift bags for their events or programming.

The Grand Opening of UTG is slated for January 2020 and with your help, we hope to get to our goal as quickly as possible to have enough capital funds to make UTG as beautiful as possible for our community and the greater good.

Love,

Livia
