Ari was born healthy and happy. At 18 months, he could say five words, imitate sounds, follow simple directions, clap his hands, and seemed to be progressing normally. Then for some unknown reason, he suddenly lost all of his skills and stopped making eye contact. We knew something was wrong, so we took him to his family doctor. Then we took him to have his hearing tested. Then we took him to a psychologist. Then we took him to another psychologist. After months of testing and agonizing questions that had to be answered, we were shocked to find out that he was suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorder.
That was almost four years ago, and Ari has come so far. We have done as much as we can and he is still very much in the woods. We are in desperate need of additional guidance from our experts at Son-Rise.
The Son-Rise Program was founded in the early 1970‘s in Sheffield Massachusetts by Bears Barry Neil and Samharia Kaufman, who recovered their profoundly autistic son, Raun, who is now the CEO of the company. Son-Rise is located at the Autism Treatment Center of America in Sheffield, Massachussetts. It is a home-based program that has helped thousands recover from autism.
We attended the five day Start-Up in October of 2012. We came home with the tools to start our home-based program. Then Maximum Impact, the second five-day workshop in April, 2013. Both workshops were LIFE-CHANGING for us!! During both sessions, we attended group workshops for five days and received intensive one on one counseling with experts in the field.
Then we came home and the real work began. Ari made leaps and bounds at first. But we lost our momentum when I suffered a neck injury in June of 2013. It took much longer to recover than expected, and I lost my job because of it. Things got pretty rough for our family, but Ari is still plugging along and making progress in spite of the fact that we have had such trauma to our health and finances.
We are so thankful to have raised $8,634.00 last year for Ari's therapy!! It has greatly contributed to the cost of Ari's journey so far with the Autism Treatment Center of America. Now we would like for Ari to enter the last leg of his journey with the Son-Rise Program: The Son-Rise Intensive: $20,000.00 to get Ari to Massachusetts for a life-changing week of untinterrupted, research-based, award-winning, one-on-one therapy with leading experts in the field.
Thank You So Much for your contributions. Like and Share the fundraiser as much as possible because we know somebody somewhere always cares.
Critical news: Due to my neck injury, I have had to take a leave of absence from my job as an elementary music teacher. I am not allowed to be employed until my doctor gives written permission for me to return to work. If we can raise enough money to pay the rent, then we would not have to move Ari in the middle of his recovery. We need to raise $860.00 per month. The doctor said I need to rest for at least 3 mos. If we cannot pay the rent, we will have to move to Frank's parents house in Milton. This would be a hardship for our family for several reasons: 1. We do not want to upset Ari's recovery by moving him and 2. I am injured and cannot lift anything. and 3. Our other two boys would be uprooted from the community and friends they have made here for the last 3 years. This is truly a critical situation with a lot of complicated variables to consider. The doctor bills are already piling up as well. Please give if you are able and help us save Ari's home. Thank You So Much! God bless you.
The Morale Police collected $73.00 for the fundraiser. WOOT! Nice job Friends!! We will find out what the donation from food and bev sales on Monday or Tuesday. That's 73 steps closer to our goal. Way to go thanks so much Doug, Talia, Joe, and Gage! Could not have done it without you! And thanks everyone who came out especially Dasha, Shannon, Amanda, Erin, j rock, bruce, carol and tim!!
